Author credentials The author’s background In the early stages of research we are looking for publications to focus our research questions or to read up on unfamiliar topics. Citation databases and alternative metric tools can be used to assess the output and impact of an individual’s paper or body of work. Three main bibliometric sources Various tools are available to identify a range of bibliometrics.
