Clinical Tools: A DIY catalogue for the creative

Instead of encouraging the purchasing of new technologies for medical training, this textbook, in the form of a catalogue, focuses on sharing examples of creative tools that already exist. This issue also offers a practical guide for how to make these tools, encouraging using local resources. Ever considered where your learning tools come from as you study or teach medicine? So many teaching materials in medicine are mass-produced, environmentally unfriendly, and reproduce the same kind of bodies. We need a drastic rethinking of our teaching tools. But rather than new inventions, what if the innovations we need are already out there? Our first issue of Clinical Tools: A DIY Catalogue for the Creative celebrates the abundance of ideas for teaching materials that already exist in medical education. Inside you will find gorgeous illustrations, clear instructions for how to make tools and insightful essays exploring the ideas behind DIY in medical education. Get your making supplies ready! This open textbook is designed for nursing, medical and other healthcare students and teachers across bachelor’s, undergraduate and postgraduate, master’s level, especially those enrolled in courses on clinical training. It is also relevant to other practitioners and learners working in healthcare contexts who continue to engage in educational activities. The textbook is intended to help students learn about and create their own teaching tools, whether they are working in obstetrics, surgery, or general medicine. The book supports learning by doing: students and teachers can read and adapt the instructions, use the included suggestions, and connect to what is available and relevant in their own healthcare contexts. It is also suitable for instructors seeking accessible, reusable teaching material that can be integrated into classroom teaching, assignments, and research-led education across healthcare education settings.

Open3DAnatomy - 3D model Inguinal and Femoral Canal and Structures in Inguinal and Femoral Hernia Surgery - English labels

3D model of the Inguinal and Femoral Canal and Structures relevant for Inguinal and Femoral Hernia Surgery. This model focuses on the structures relevant to understand the inguinal canal and femoral canal, including the structures relevant in surgery for inguinal and femoral hernia's. Surgically relevant structures that are present include: inferior epigastric artery to obturator artery connection (corona mortis), lacunar ligament (Gimbernath), iliopubic tract, inguinal triangle (Hesselbach's), iliohypogastric and ilioinguinal nerves, etc.. Overlays (green transparent) are used to show structures with specific names that are part of larger structures. For instance: lacunar ligament, reflected inguinal ligament, iliopubic tract, femoral sheath, femoral canal, femoral ring, deep and superficial inguinal rings, inguinal (Hesselbach's) triangle, conjoint tendon, medial and lateral crus of superficial inguinal ring. Most of these overlays are initially hidden, but they can be shown via the menu. This model contains a selection of the structures that are present in the model 'Open3DAnatomy - 3D model Inguinal and Femoral Canal and Surrounding Regions - English labels' The source model was created by the AnatomyTOOL Open3D Model Project. Anatomical content: O. Paul Gobée, MD, anatomist, Leiden University Medical Center, dept. Anatomy & Embryology, Netherlands (inguinal and femoral canal, muscles of abdomen) Prof. Marco C. Workshop Neurodiversiteit

Beyond Google Scholar

Students often struggle to find relevant literature for their thesis projects. The main aim of this tutorial is two-fold, namely to teach students (1) how to find relevant literature using various databases and search strategies and (2) how to critically reflect on the role of digital databases and Generative AI tools in their search process. The package includes a lecturer’s manual and two versions of the same tutorial: one with steps in Excel and one without. The tutorial can be delivered as an in-class workshop (2–3 hours) or assigned as a take-home assignment. The databases and tools used in this tutorial include Zotero, Google Scholar, Project MUSE, JSTOR, ChatGPT, and Excel. The tutorial can be used in any higher education classroom and is particularly suitable for courses that prepare students for writing a BA or MA thesis.

Diamech

DiaMech, the short name for Diagnosis of Understanding of Mechanics, has been developed to test students’ understanding of fundamental concepts in the field of elementary Mechanics (point masses and translational motion) and the mastery of the relevant skills. The method can be used in all fields of Physics . This instrument does not test the reproduction of knowledge of laws and definitions, nor skills in problem solving. DiaMech consists of this introductory section, and of four sections containing the test units,
