Sedak tempered +

In this recorded presentation from glasstec 2024, Julian Hänig introduces sedak's new product, sedak tempered+, a glass designed without optical anisotropies. Anisotropies are strain patterns that become visible as rainbow colors or spots in tempered glass, caused by non-uniform stress during the rapid cooling of the tempering process. While standards classify this as a characteristic and not a defect, it remains undesirable for architects. Using light scanners to quantify these stress patterns, sedak developed a new tempering technology that eliminates the visible anisotropies present even in the highest standard quality class (Class A). The result is a superior glass product that enables completely homogeneous and undisturbed glass facades, fulfilling a key demand in modern architecture. Special thanks to Messe Düsseldorf GmbH for providing the footage, and to Julian Hänig for contributing to the Open GLASSroom OER collection. The creation of these resources has been (partially) funded by the ERASMUS+ grant program of the European Union under grant no. 2022-1-DE01-KA220-HED-000089750. PFAS – Persistent Micropollutants in the Water Cycle

This report presents the final course material that was developed for the online learning module on persistent micropollutants – PFAS. The document can be used as a stand-alone manual to fully individually follow the entire course, from week to week. It includes the links to the video materials that were developed for the course within the project, fully integrated within the reading material. The course forms a bridge between scientists and professionals working in the water cycle. So far, the information on PFAS has been available in a scattered manner, making it difficult for non-experts to get a complete introductory overview. This course was designed to compile information on PFAS through the water cycle, from production to use and final treatment. The course is built up in an intuitive way: it starts with a general introduction on the origin, chemistry and nomenclature of PFAS; national standards and reported concentrations in the urban water cycle are presented; analytics are explained; the course concludes with technologies for separation and final destruction of PFAS. Each chapter (or week) contains written textbook material, videos and additional reading material. Development of the course has been a co-production between PROMISCES and TU Delft, as TU Delft has an extensive educational support system including a professional recording studio and an expert learning assessment system for engineering education. All materials including videos are freely available for the general public. If the learner wants the full experience of having virtual classmates, get access to all exercises and receive a certificate and credit points after successful completion of the course, one can register at online-learning.tudelft.nl. The course was developed by two environmental engineers with a professional educational background (Mariska Ronteltap and Kim Lompe). The educational videos include knowledge clips (recorded lectures in a studio), videos in laboratories, interviews with PROMISCES project partners and videos on location. To be able to follow the course a basic understanding of chemistry is required; other than that, the course is fully understandable for non-experts. Collaboration between TU Delft, Delfland Water Authority, and the EU Project PROMISCES.

Ports and Waterways: Navigating the changing world

Before you lies the book ‘Ports and Waterways - Navigating the changing world’, written by the Ports and Waterways team, part of the Civil Engineering and Geosciences faculty at Delft University of Technology. It integrates the content of a number of separate lecture notes we used in our teaching activities and updates this information where relevant. The integration reflects our vision that ports and waterways should be viewed as parts of a coherent system that supports waterborne supply chains, and that their integral design and operation is essential.

E-Learning Module Urban Green Spaces

The University of Twente ITC together with Tropenbos Suriname developed this e-module on urban green spaces in the tropics in the context, and using the results, of their UTSN Twinning project on "Towards a green and more livable Paramaribo". With this e-module we aim to provide access to quality learning material for Surinamese and Dutch MSc students and other learners. This e- module is designed to be used in two ways, i) within a course, introducing students to the subject of urban green benefits and management. ii) as stand-alone short course. The module is entirely self-study and can be followed without an internet connection. Cite as: Schwarz. N. and Willemen L., 2021. Food Shortage in Maputo

There are a wide range of shocks and stresses influencing the resilience of Maputo's food supply. Food security, which is vital to the well-being of the city, can be improved upon in numerous ways, such as through proper irrigation and control of the soil quality and water supply. The resilience of the food supply may shift in the future due to factors like climate change, as well as actions taken by governments, organizations, and individuals.

Responsible innovation: From MOOC to book

This textbook is based on the MOOC Responsible Innovation offered by the TU Delft. It provides a framework to reflect on the ethics and risks of new technologies. How can we make sure that innovations do justice to social and ethical values? How can we minimize (unknown)risks? The book explains: • The concept and importance of responsible innovation for society • Key ethical concepts and considerations to analyse the risks of new technologies • Different types of innovation (e.g. radical, niche, incremental, frugal) • Roadmap for Responsible Innovation by Industry • The concept of Value Sensitive Design (VSD) It includes a link to all the web lectures as well as case studies ranging from care robots and nuclear energy to Artificial Intelligence and self-driving vehicles.
