The Political Economy of the Netherlands Antilles and the Future of the Caribbean

This brilliant and engaging book shows that unemployment in the Netherlands Antilles can be reduced from 15% to 4.5% and that the national debt is not out of control at 84.4% but sustainable at 66.3% of Gross Domestic Product. Poverty and unemployment arise now from a wrong system of taxation. Already in 1889 the tax theorist Cohen Stuart gave the analogy of a bridge to clarify that workers should be exempt of taxes to allow them to support themselves at a decent minimum income. His rule has been neglected. Elimination of the tax void below the minimum wage, where taxes are officially levied but not collected since one cannot get a job there due to that minimum wage, will allow employment at the same net income and at no cost. Benefits can also be turned into wage cost subsidies. The Antilles have a bright future so that a split-up and debt-relief by the Netherlands are not needed. The future of the Caribbean lies in a Caribbean Union similar to the European Union. The PDF is online, the book comes at a price - but is temporarily out of print.

Common Sense: Boycott Holland

The cause of the economic crisis lies in democracy. Our governments obstruct economic co-ordination. Next to "Greek statistics" there is censorship of economic science in Holland. Our democracy relies on the checks and balances of the Executive, Legislative and Judiciary branches of government. These allow too much room for politicians to manipulate information. The solution is an Economic Supreme Court (ESC) based in science. European countries do not have to transfer sovereignty to Brussels but politicians have to transfer power to their national ESC. The current problems in finance, banking and national debt are only symptoms. The underlying economic problem is stagflation, i.e. a dismal combination of unemployment and inflation. In 1980-2007 governments tried to solve stagflation by deregulating (financial) markets. With new regulations the underlying stagflation rears its ugly head again. The author was at the Dutch Central Planning Bureau in 1982-1991 where his analysis met with censorship. After 20 years of protest it is advisable to boycott Holland.

Definition & Reality in the General Theory of Political Economy

Keynes's General Theory is generalised even further by including endogenous government in the model, giving a truly general Political Economy. By including stagnation in economic policy making in our analysis, we arrive at a better understanding of the Great Depression and the Great Stagflation. The general theory also explains why it would be advisable for a democratic society to create an Economic Supreme Court as a separate constitutional power, next to the Legislative, Executive and Judicial branches. This book primarily gives theory and stylized facts, and it is directed primarily at my fellow economists. The colleagues specifically must get to understand the Definition & Reality methodology before they will appreciate that my analysis is scientifically warranted. Much work remains to be done in practical research. And much work must also be done by the other professions. It may be hoped, none the less, that the parliaments of our democratic nations investigate the issue too, so that there is more hope for improvement in the living conditions of the many victims of the current imbalance of powers. The PDF is online, the printed book comes at a price.
