Introduction to data management as part of Open Science

Data management is part of the research cycle. It is crucial to think about it in the design phase of any experiment. This self-study module gives you hands on advice on what to do (and what NOT) with research data. It is not about (statistical) data analysis. This self-study module helps students get familiar with setting up their data management plan. As it’s an introduction to this topic, it is for students at beginner level. After completing this self-study module, you should be able to answer the following questions: What do I store? Where do I store? How can others understand what I stored? Why should I care?

Shownotes???? Enable Link Mode on your Meta Quest

Main concepts Link mode (PCVR mode) on MetaQuest Streaming or running VR content from a PC to the headset Activating Link mode from within the headset Visual indicators that confirm Link mode is active Exiting Link mode safely Learning goals After this lesson, learners will be able to: Explain what Link or PCVR mode is and when it is used Enable Link mode on a paired MetaQuest headset Identify the visual cues that confirm successful activation Access the PC-rendered VR environment through the headset Exit Link mode and return to standalone mode Key takeaways Link mode is the final step in setting up MetaQuest for PC VR The headset must already be paired with the PC before enabling Link mode A successful connection places the user in a gray grid environment The Meta button can be used to access menus if they are not visible Exiting Link mode returns the headset to standalone operation Further exploration Search terms: MetaQuest Link mode PCVR Enable Link MetaQuest MetaQuest PCVR environment Exit Link mode MetaQuest Next steps: Stream a Unity scene from the PC to the headset Test PC VR applications from the MetaStore Explore performance settings for PC VR Continue with Unity-to-Headset workflows in upcoming tutorials

How to onboard and support an immersed user

Recommendations and guidelines for first-time VR users (research context) Explain what to expect before putting on the headset Briefly describe what the person will see and hear in VR, and reassure them that they can stop at any time. Check comfort and safety first Ensure the headset fits comfortably, the straps are not too tight, and the play space is clear of obstacles. Start with a calm, simple environment Avoid overwhelming visuals or fast movement during the first experience. Begin with a neutral or static scene. Introduce controls gradually Explain one interaction at a time, such as pointing or selecting, before introducing more complex actions. Encourage slow movements Ask the participant to move their head and body slowly to reduce the risk of discomfort or motion sickness. Maintain verbal contact throughout Stay in communication, regularly asking how they feel and offering guidance while they explore. Observe body language and reactions Watch for signs of discomfort, confusion, or anxiety, and be ready to pause or stop the experience if needed. Normalize uncertainty and mistakes Let participants know it’s normal to feel unsure or awkward during their first VR experience. Provide an easy exit option Clearly explain how to remove the headset or exit the experience if they want to stop. Debrief after the experience Ask how it felt, what was clear or unclear, and address any concerns before continuing or ending the session. These guidelines help ensure a safe, supportive, and positive first VR experience, especially in research and educational settings.

Self-study module Introduction to Plant Biology - Plant hormones

This self-study module is part of the series ‘Introduction to Plant Biology’ and introduces plant hormones, explaining how chemical signaling enables communication and coordination within plants. It is designed for students learning basic plant biology and for teachers seeking clear figures and explanations for educational use. The module covers fundamental concepts of cell signaling and signal transduction and examines the functions and interactions of major plant hormones, including auxin, cytokinin, abscisic acid, gibberellins, ethylene, salicylic acid, jasmonic acid, brassinosteroids, and strigolactones, in regulating plant growth, development, and responses to the environment.
