Collaboration and Personal Development

In this reader, a teaching programme (assignments, underlying models and theories) is described to develop collaborative skills in a transdisciplinary-oriented educational context in between science and society. The focus lies on creating awareness about mechamisms that promote pleasurability, effectiveness and responsibility in professional collaborative practices. The MSc course for which it was created, is called Academic Consultancy Training, taught at Wageningen University and Research

ShareXR : Challenge-Based Learning with XR (BMS Lab, University of Twente)

ShareXR introduces a challenge-based learning (CBL) approach for integrating research, design, and development in engineering education through extended reality (XR). Developed at the University of Twente’s BMS Lab, the model addresses the increasing need for multidisciplinary collaboration by teaching students to speak a shared language across research, design, and technical development. Even for those without an engineering, scientific or STEM background. This course offers a hands-on, multidisciplinary learning experience where students take real research ideas and transform them into innovation projects within a complete and validated open learning XR ecosystem. With reusable multimedia course content, the course enables students to understand interdisciplinary collaboration, while each module focuses on one of the four pillars: Research, Design, Development, and Project Management — guided by principles of balance, iteration, and collaboration. By working with different tools like one-page project canvases, students will learn how to translate research ideas into structured user stories, requirements, and project management tasks, while exploring how XR tools can act as a human-centered medium for prototyping, testing, and validating ideas without requiring coding skills.

The Digital Age: What about Human Values? | Radboud Reflects Lecture with Tamar Sharon

How can we make room for the human dimension in a world that is becoming increasingly digitized? Digitization seems to be the solution to everything: problems in education, healthcare, and even the justice system. How can we continue to make room for other essential values such as creativity, empathy, caring for one another, privacy, cooperation, or the right to a fair trial? Listen to philosopher Tamar Sharon, who argues that digitization has become our new framework for thinking. She points out the dangers of this: is human dignity being compromised? The Digital Age: What about Human Values? | Silent-interview with political philosopher Tamar Sharon Denkwerk 2026 | Saturday 7 March 2026 | De Lindenberg, Nijmegen Radboud Reflects and Faculty of Philosophy, Theology and Religious Studies

Byzantium & Friends | 145. Seeing into the minds of others, with Ellen Muehlberger Thursday Dec 04, 2025

A conversation with Ellen Muehlberger (University of Michigan) about how some people in late antiquity tried to model, confirm, or interpret what they thought was going on in the minds of others. We briefly talk about the genre of the lecture book, and then about classroom exercises in impersonation (were they exercises in empathy or not?) and breaking into houses to see what people had in their private quarters. The conversation is based on Ellen's recent book Things Unseen: Essays on Evidence, Knowledge, and the Late Ancient World (University of California Press 2025).

The Stream-of-Consciousness (SoC) Dialogue Method

Using timed speaking turns, alternating roles (speaking and listening), and carefully crafted ‘prompts’ (sentence starters), this simple but potent method gradually moves pairs into deeper layers of exploration and sharing, while fostering reflection, attentive listening, and connection.

Adaptive Expertise Assessment

TEDx Twente 2025 Tessera Crosby

This talk by Tessera Crosby explores the deep impact of grief on the body, brain, and workplace. She shares her personal journey of loss, from her husband’s illness and death to navigating secondary losses and the stigma around grief at work. Drawing on research and lived experience, she explains how grief rewires the brain, the differences between instrumental and intuitive grief styles, and why workplaces must adapt with compassion, flexibility, and movement-friendly support. Crosby offers practical ways managers can foster psychological safety and resilience, helping grieving employees return not just sooner, but stronger.

Responsible Anticipation and Visioneering

This exercise targets the development of students' capacities to critically analyze existing technological visions and enables them to create their own responsible socio-technical visions. Through group work and discussions, students examine technological promises embedded in anticipation discourses, uncover hidden values and assumptions, and develop alternative narratives that can guide engineering practice and policy decisions

Collage-making for self-discovery in engineering ethics

This creative exercise enables students to discover, reflect and express their emotions in relation to engineering. In this way, the exercise enables self-understanding through an encounter with one’s own feelings and intuitions and serves as a starting point for better ethical deliberation and well-being. Learning goals: • Expanding moral sensibility (being aware of their own emotions, values and norms) • Stimulating moral creativity and imagination

Open Mind game

Open Mind is a digital 20-30 minute game that can be played on any smartphone or tablet. It offers a structured and engaging environment that challenges players’ assumptions and encourages them to reflect on their own experiences, question their assumptions, and explore diverse perspectives in a safe and interactive way. One can choose to have students play the game in class in class mode and include a plenary introduction and a post-play reflection, or one can have students play the game individually at home or at another location. When played on campus, the activity (game, introduction, and reflection) takes approximately 45 minutes in total. It could be used as a first introduction to perspective-taking and uncovering prejudices, priming students to be more open to participate in follow-up activities like perspective-taking exercises and dialogues. Open Mind was developed as part of the Utrecht University Comenius project Fostering an Open Mind and Open Attitude in Higher Education that strives to stimulate perspective-taking and dialogue in academic education with creative learning activities. Other learning activities that have been developed as part of this project are Playing perspectives (a game design toolkit) and The Square (Het Vlak; a creative dialogue methodology).
