Illustratie – Beslisboom boekenlijst

Process – Quality checks in the digital educational resources cycle

This document describes the quality assurance process for digital educational resources at HAN and the elements required to make that process reliable, repeatable, and practical. It includes 1. The procedure for quality assurance of digital educational resources; 2. The HAN quality model for digital educational resources; 3. Guidelines and a template for (peer) review of digital educational resources; 4. An explanation of how to apply the quality model and (peer) review within the educational resources cycle.

Fracture Mechanics Fundamentals

In this video, Daniel Trias Mansilla explains the core principles of fracture mechanics, which provides an alternative to traditional stress analysis by accounting for the inherent cracks and defects in real materials. The field introduces two main criteria for predicting failure. The first is an energy-based approach, using the energy release rate (G), which measures the energy available to propagate a crack. The second is a stress-based approach, using the stress intensity factor (K), which characterizes the intense stress field near a crack tip. Fracture occurs when either of these values reaches a critical threshold (Gc or Kc), which are material properties known as fracture toughness. These concepts allow engineers to predict failure in flawed components more accurately than traditional methods. The video was produced by the Open GLASSroom project. Special thanks to Daniel Trias Mansilla for contributing to the Open GLASSroom OER collection. Design challenge

Data Analysis and visualization BML

Learning Outcomes You can explain the fundamental concepts of data, including data types, data structures, and the importance of data quality, and you can apply these concepts in the context of both Excel and R. You can import data from various sources (such as CSV, TXT, Excel files) into both Excel and R, and you are able to select the appropriate methods and functions for different data formats and structures. You can clean and prepare data for analysis in both Excel and R by applying techniques for identifying and handling missing values, outliers, inconsistencies, and duplicates. You can apply and interpret various data analysis functions in both Excel and R, including determining minimum and maximum values, calculating percentiles, selecting specific data based on criteria, applying conditional formatting to visually identify patterns, and sorting data to gain insights. You can create effective data visualizations in both Excel and R (such as bar charts, line charts, pie charts, and box plots) to communicate patterns, trends, and relationships in data, and you can customize the visualizations for a clear and purpose-driven presentation. Duration: 18 lessons (5EC).

Week 3: Creating and Selecting Options

Around this video, a lesson has been built with specific learning objectives, activities, and supporting materials for students. The next steps in the case-solving cycle are being explained: generating and selecting solutions. Students explore ideation techniques like brainwriting and mind mapping to develop creative, practical ideas. Ground rules help keep the process focused, collaborative, and open. To evaluate ideas, the SFA framework (Suitability, Feasibility, Acceptability) is used to shortlist the most promising options. A real-world example shows how these tools lead to well-founded decisions. Finally, students learn to apply a decision-making matrix to compare options using relevant criteria. This lesson helps students move from insights to action by developing structured, team-driven solutions.
