CollateX

CollateX is a software to read multiple (≥ 2) versions of a text, splitting each version into parts (tokens) to be compared, identify similarities of and differences between the versions (including moved/transposed segments) by aligning tokens, and output the alignment results in a variety of formats for further processing, for instance to support the production of a critical apparatus or the stemmatical analysis of a text's genesis. It resembles software used to compute differences between files (e.g. diff) or tools for sequence alignment which are commonly used in Bioinformatics. While CollateX shares some of the techniques and algorithms with those tools, it mainly aims for a flexible and configurable approach to the problem of finding similarities and differences in texts, sometimes trading computational soundness or complexity for the user's ability to influence results. As such it is primarily designed for use cases in disciplines like Philology or – more specifically – the field of Textual Criticism where the assessment of findings is based on interpretation and therefore can be supported by computational means but is not necessarily computable.

Maker Lab resource list: facilities/equipment/software

For now, there is no document to share beyond this summary of the facilities, equipment, and software: FACILITIES: The Maker Lab is a fully flipped lab in the sense that students mainly do their experimental work outside of the classroom without teacher supervision. Thus, no laboratory is needed. The class-sessions happen in a regular classroom. The only lab-related "facility" is a 4 square meter closet (the "Maker Closet") where the the equipment is stored: EQUIPMENT: each pair of students gets toolboxes to take home which all contain Arduinos, pliers, wires, breadboards, etc. The "Maker Closet" additionally stores various electronic sensors and basic electronic and construction tools and supplies (connectors, tape, tripod-stands, batteries, SDcards, etc). Note: Fairly often, students identify useful sensors (or supplies) that are not stocked but are affordable and well-suited to their research plans. Suppliers of Maker tools and electronics often have great user manuals and instructional videos and can ship these products quickly. Students submit receipts and are reimbursed for their purchases, which in turn helps to grow the collection of equipment each year. SOFTWARE: students need the following free software: Arduino IDE software (Interactive Development Environment) the Python Anaconda distribution, which includes Jupyter Notebook sometimes also drivers for interfacing their laptops with the Arduino via a USB cable

Case Law Explorer: UI

Legal scholars and law students generally analyse court decisions by means of human analysis. Case Law Explorer is a tool for conducting network analysis on Dutch (and in the near future also European) case law, directed at law students and legal researchers. The software enables extracting, processing, and visualizing citations in court decisions (references in court decisions to other decisions). The software allows finding precedents (court decisions that provide rules that can be applied to solve current or future cases) and identifying groups of decisions on similar (sub-)topics. The link to the materials covers the documentation for the software, including the link to the software itself. The web application draws data from a data pipeline that extracts, transforms, and loads case law. The data pipeline, the underlying software platform, and links to Github repositories, can be found at https://maastrichtlawtech.github.io/case-explorer-ui/#/.
