PFAS – Persistent Micropollutants in the Water Cycle

This report presents the final course material that was developed for the online learning module on persistent micropollutants – PFAS. The document can be used as a stand-alone manual to fully individually follow the entire course, from week to week. It includes the links to the video materials that were developed for the course within the project, fully integrated within the reading material. The course forms a bridge between scientists and professionals working in the water cycle. So far, the information on PFAS has been available in a scattered manner, making it difficult for non-experts to get a complete introductory overview. This course was designed to compile information on PFAS through the water cycle, from production to use and final treatment. The course is built up in an intuitive way: it starts with a general introduction on the origin, chemistry and nomenclature of PFAS; national standards and reported concentrations in the urban water cycle are presented; analytics are explained; the course concludes with technologies for separation and final destruction of PFAS. Each chapter (or week) contains written textbook material, videos and additional reading material. Development of the course has been a co-production between PROMISCES and TU Delft, as TU Delft has an extensive educational support system including a professional recording studio and an expert learning assessment system for engineering education. All materials including videos are freely available for the general public. If the learner wants the full experience of having virtual classmates, get access to all exercises and receive a certificate and credit points after successful completion of the course, one can register at online-learning.tudelft.nl. The course was developed by two environmental engineers with a professional educational background (Mariska Ronteltap and Kim Lompe). The educational videos include knowledge clips (recorded lectures in a studio), videos in laboratories, interviews with PROMISCES project partners and videos on location. To be able to follow the course a basic understanding of chemistry is required; other than that, the course is fully understandable for non-experts. Collaboration between TU Delft, Delfland Water Authority, and the EU Project PROMISCES.

You Have a Part to Play TOOLKIT

This toolkit is intended to provide educational innovators in higher education – lecturers and coordinators, for example, but also students or directors of education – with tools to give sustainability (both as a field of knowledge, as well as skills) a more solid place in their educational programmes. This toolkit was developed by the Radboud University project team 'You Have a Part to Play', made possible by the Comenius Network. The Comenius Network was established in 2018 with the aim of uniting teachers who are involved in educational innovation in further education. Sharing knowledge about educational innovation is central to this goal.

3D tekenen (K0280)

Transport Resilience

This 90-minute lecture reflects on long-term transport infrastructure and innovation investments from a resilience perspective. Three adaptation approaches are compared in terms of their strengths and pitfalls. Mobility as a Service is assessed in terms of its resilience characteristics but also the vulnerabilities due to greater dependency on the security and reliability of digital and energy platforms. Assignment included- Leylilijn rail line case

Co-creation of Sustainable Cities

This set contains a series of 6 short (<15 min web lectures on ' Co-creation of Sustainable Cities' (see https://online-learning.tudelft.nl/courses/citizens-co-creating-sustainable-cities/) Around the world, major challenges of our time such as population growth and climate change are being addressed in cities. Here, citizens play an important role together with governments, companies, NGOs and researchers in creating social, technological and political innovations for achieving sustainability and resilience. Citizens can be co-creators of sustainable cities when they can engage in city politics or in the design of the urban environment and its technologies and infrastructure. In addition, citizens influence and are influenced by the technologies and systems that they use every day. Sustainability is thus a result of the interplay between technology, policy and people’s daily lives. Understanding this interplay is essential for creating sustainable cities. This set provides an overview of the dynamics of co-creation for sustainable cities worldwide. In different contexts, different forms of co-creation are preferred in specific urban systems. These materials will provide you with an understanding needed to investigate how water, waste, energy, air, food, mobility, and green spaces have a vast effect on city life. Additionally, the videos will teach you about the dynamics of co-creation and the key principles of citizens interacting with service providing companies, technology and infrastructure developers, policy makers and researchers. You will gain an understanding of major types of co-creation and their interdependence with their socio-technical and political contexts. You will become equipped to indicate how you can use co-creation to develop innovative technologies, policy arrangements or social practices for a sustainable city in your own community. You will demonstrate this by developing an action plan, research proposal or project idea. Basic knowledge of sustainability in urban settings, urban environmental technology and urban management is assumed. These materials relate to the collection "Governance and Institutional Arrangements of Complex STE Systems."

Competition for Green Urban Spaces in Amsterdam

Urban space can be employed for multiple functions which, in many cases, leads to a competition for urban space. In a compact city like Amsterdam, for example, space for green spaces and food production is often under threat from plans for residential areas and infrastructures. Prof. Arnold van der Valk will discuss how urban planners deal with competition for space, how this competition plays out in practice, and what roles citizens have in co-creating green urban spaces. LEARNING OBJECTIVES: Describe adaptation; robustness and/or intervention strategies for STE systems. DURATION: 1 short video (~7 min long)

Trend Report Assignment

The resilience of an STE system can be affected by shocks and stresses. The severity of these shocks and stresses or how the system is affected may change due to climate change, socio-economic development and/or technological developments. TUDelft Environmental Engineering students were asked to study a specific shock or stress for a specific topic and analyze solution strategies to reduce the impact of the shock or stress in a “Trend Report”. In addition they added understanding and discussion questions to the trend reports. This makes these trend report an open education resource that can be used as a teaching material for 30-60 minutes to gain insight in typical shocks and stresses that affect resilience.
