Process – Quality checks in the digital educational resources cycle

This document describes the quality assurance process for digital educational resources at HAN and the elements required to make that process reliable, repeatable, and practical. It includes 1. The procedure for quality assurance of digital educational resources; 2. The HAN quality model for digital educational resources; 3. Guidelines and a template for (peer) review of digital educational resources; 4. An explanation of how to apply the quality model and (peer) review within the educational resources cycle.

Introduction to Stochastic Hydrology

Hydrologic systems are both complex and extremely heterogeneous in time and space. As hydrological models are simplified versions of reality, their predictions are by definition subject to uncertainty. The field of stochastic hydrology focuses on quantifying this uncertainty along with prediction. This book aims to present an overview of the field of stochastic hydrology at an introductory level. A wide range of topics and methods will be treated, while each topic and method is only treated at a basic level: descriptive statistics; probability and random variables; hydrological statistics and extremes; random functions; time series analysis; geostatistics; forward stochastic modeling; and state prediction and Kalman filtering. The book can be used for a 10-15-week course at third-year undergraduate or first-year graduate level.

Open Education menu

We created a ready-to-use menu with 17 different Open Education practices to be implemented in your education. With each practice turned into its own dish and recipe, you can easily see how the practice can be implemented, with its difficulty level and examples. The goal is to provide you with ideas and examples on how to implement Open Science practices into your education. Or use the menu as a starting point for conversations about open educational practices with colleagues! Already an expert? The menu can also be used for a 1-hour workshop on Open Educational practices for others interested in Open Science. Let the participants select a dish from the menu they are interested in, and help them to adapt the dish so they can turn their own ideas into real practices.

Collaboration and Personal Development

In this reader, a teaching programme (assignments, underlying models and theories) is described to develop collaborative skills in a transdisciplinary-oriented educational context in between science and society. The focus lies on creating awareness about mechamisms that promote pleasurability, effectiveness and responsibility in professional collaborative practices. The MSc course for which it was created, is called Academic Consultancy Training, taught at Wageningen University and Research

ShareXR : Challenge-Based Learning with XR (BMS Lab, University of Twente)

ShareXR introduces a challenge-based learning (CBL) approach for integrating research, design, and development in engineering education through extended reality (XR). Developed at the University of Twente’s BMS Lab, the model addresses the increasing need for multidisciplinary collaboration by teaching students to speak a shared language across research, design, and technical development. Even for those without an engineering, scientific or STEM background. This course offers a hands-on, multidisciplinary learning experience where students take real research ideas and transform them into innovation projects within a complete and validated open learning XR ecosystem. With reusable multimedia course content, the course enables students to understand interdisciplinary collaboration, while each module focuses on one of the four pillars: Research, Design, Development, and Project Management — guided by principles of balance, iteration, and collaboration. By working with different tools like one-page project canvases, students will learn how to translate research ideas into structured user stories, requirements, and project management tasks, while exploring how XR tools can act as a human-centered medium for prototyping, testing, and validating ideas without requiring coding skills.

Improving Health Care with Clinical Prediction Models

Clinical prediction models are increasingly used to support health care decisions, helping clinicians estimate disease risk, guide treatment choices, and tailor care to individual patients. At the same time, advances in data science and artificial intelligence have led to a rapid expansion of prediction modelling research. Yet despite this growth, only a small proportion of published models ever reach clinical practice. Improving Health Care with Clinical Prediction Models – From Idea to Impact shows how you can bridge this gap. The book guides readers through the full pathway of prediction modelling in health care: from defining a meaningful clinical problem and identifying existing models to developing, validating, evaluating, and implementing prediction model–based innovations. Combining methodological guidance with real-world clinical examples, the book explains not only how to build robust prediction models but also how to ensure they become useful tools in everyday care. Written in an accessible style and requiring only a basic understanding of statistical modelling, it provides students, researchers, and clinicians with a practical roadmap for turning prediction models into innovations that are useful, usable, and used. What this book helps you do This book takes you through the complete process of clinical prediction modelling, from the first idea for a model to its implementation in health care practice. Along the way, readers learn how to: Define a meaningful clinical problem and identify where prediction models can improve health care Find and critically evaluate existing prediction models before deciding to develop a new one Handle missing data using methods such as multiple imputation Develop and validate prediction models using established regression approaches Apply advanced regression and artificial intelligence methods for clinical prediction modelling Select models with real-world impact potential and translate them into practical decision tools Evaluate the impact of prediction model–based innovations using decision modelling and empirical studies Implement prediction model–based innovations in clinical practice and new health care settings

Testmateriaal AnatomyTOOL 10-3-2026: Manual ‘Requesting a sub model’ of the Open 3D model

This manual describes how to use the 'selection models' of the Open3DModel to create 'sub models'. Sub models are 3D models of the Open3DModel that contain only a limited number of structures and are aimed to view or demonstrate a specific anatomical topic, e.g. what is the spatial interrelation of structures a, b and c. They are meant to allow easily viewing or demonstrating of a specific (anatomical) topic. The sub models are collected at https://anatomytool.org/open3dmodel-learn.

Systems Thinking Pressure Cooker

What – This pressure cooker is an introduction to systems thinking. This pressure cooker can be used to quickly familiarize a group of people with what the characteristics of a system are and have them experience various examples of using systems thinking to explore a topic or question. For whom – The format can be used (and adjusted) for a team of teachers that are not yet familiar with systems thinking, as well as a group of students (all levels; any group size). Why – Guided training in integration of systems thinking in a research project. How long – Approximately 2-2,5 hours in class and a 10 minutes pre-class video.

Novel Switchable Glazing Assemblies for Privacy & Glare Control in a Mediterranean Climate

In this recorded presentation from glasstec 2024, Etienne Magri details a research study investigating the combination of PDLC and SPD adaptive glazing technologies to enhance glare control in buildings, using Malta's subtropical climate as a case study. The project involved testing individual and combined laminates within a scale model, evaluating visual appearance and glare using DGP metrics. Results demonstrated that the combined technologies achieved near-complete blackout, effectively eliminating solar glare while maintaining privacy, and successfully transformed static facades into dynamic systems with adjustable transparency. The video was produced by the Open GLASSroom project. Special thanks to Etienne Magri for contributing to the Open GLASSroom OER collection. The Stream-of-Consciousness (SoC) Dialogue Method

Using timed speaking turns, alternating roles (speaking and listening), and carefully crafted ‘prompts’ (sentence starters), this simple but potent method gradually moves pairs into deeper layers of exploration and sharing, while fostering reflection, attentive listening, and connection.
