Rethinking Economy with Querine Kommandeur | In a Nutshell

Can we overcome capitalism? What alternatives to communism exist? And what keeps us from imagining new economies? In the first episode of In a Nutshell’s third season, we delve into the challenges of capitalism. Together with this week’s guest, Querine Kommandeur, we discuss whether it is possible to exit capitalism and learn why it matters how we talk about economics. Querine is a PhD candidate at Radboud University. In her research, she focuses on alternative economic discourses. With her work, she aims to better understand how these discourses emerge and develop, and how they can lead totransformations. Do you want to delve deeper into alternative economics? Make sure to follow Querine’s recommendations and listen to the podcasts “Economics for Rebels” by Dr. Köves Alexandra, “Leven na de groei” by Just Enough, or “Ecosofie” by MarnixKluiters. And if you want to stick your nose into some books, check out “Doughnut Ecomics” by Kate Raworth, “Mission Economy” by Mariana Mazzucato, and “Less Is More: How Degrowth Will Save the World” by Jason Hickel. TEDx Twente 2025 Penny de Villiers

Your job isn’t your worth—Penny de Villiers shares how chasing titles and output led to burnout, and why reframing value is essential in an age of automation. From a formative lesson by Jim Rohn to a breakdown that exposed identity scaffolding, she challenges us to locate value in human traits—curiosity, compassion, and conscience—rather than performance. Along the way she connects rising burnout, looming AI disruption (Eric Schmidt, Yuval Noah Harari), and basic-income trials to one core question: where will we find value when roles shift or disappear? A grounded talk for students and professionals alike.

How To Write A Quantitative Research Paper

So, you need to write a ‘quantitative’ research paper, and you want to know: what is the correct way of writing such a paper? The answer is, unfortunately: it depends … For one, there is no universally accepted, ‘correct’ way of writing any paper in the social sciences in general. Moreover, even just within the so-called ‘quantitative’ research tradition specifically, there exist different viewpoints on what makes for a good research paper. To muddy things up even further, how to write a paper will also depend on the specific research question(s) that it addresses. Hence, even the same scientist might opt for varying approaches in different papers. Having said that, it is possible to identify some common rules and practices that are often followed, as well as a number of practices that should generally be avoided. Based on these common rules and practices, this document is meant to help you on your way with writing a ‘quantitative’ research paper by offering a number of tips, tricks and rules-of-thumb. None of these rules and practices are set in stone, and you (or your teacher/supervisor) may have excellent arguments to deviate from them. However, in general, following them will greatly increase the quality of your paper.
