Novel Switchable Glazing Assemblies for Privacy & Glare Control in a Mediterranean Climate

In this recorded presentation from glasstec 2024, Etienne Magri details a research study investigating the combination of PDLC and SPD adaptive glazing technologies to enhance glare control in buildings, using Malta's subtropical climate as a case study. The project involved testing individual and combined laminates within a scale model, evaluating visual appearance and glare using DGP metrics. Results demonstrated that the combined technologies achieved near-complete blackout, effectively eliminating solar glare while maintaining privacy, and successfully transformed static facades into dynamic systems with adjustable transparency. The video was produced by the Open GLASSroom project. Special thanks to Etienne Magri for contributing to the Open GLASSroom OER collection. The creation of these resources has been (partially) funded by the ERASMUS+ grant program of the European Union under grant no. 2022-1-DE01-KA220-HED-000089750. Week 5: The special Role of Finance

Around an informative video, a lesson has been built with specific learning objectives, activities, and supporting materials for students. In clear language and step by step, it is explained why finance plays an important role in the case-solving process. Since students often find this challenging, a separate lesson is dedicated to this managerial area. Students learn how to integrate financial reasoning into their analysis and recommendations, even when limited data is available. Key topics include identifying revenue streams, estimating costs, projecting financial outcomes, and evaluating risk. With a focus on practical tools like forecasting, ROI, and risk matrices, this lesson helps students build confidence in using finance to strengthen their case arguments and support strategic decisions.

Checklist assessing GenAI content

Since commonly used evaluation criteria—such as a well-known author or reputable organization—often do not apply to GenAI-generated content, this type of content requires different and additional points of attention. For this reason, a checklist has been developed specifically for higher education to help assess the quality and reliability of texts generated by generative AI. This checklist can be adapted to institution-specific needs; the repository includes versions tailored to institutions such as the Amsterdam University of Applied Sciences (HvA) and the University of Amsterdam (UvA). The questions and follow-up checks are structured step by step to support users in critically evaluating aspects such as relevance, source referencing, factual accuracy, objectivity, and the inclusion of multiple perspectives. Both a printable version and an interactive online version are available. This allows each user to apply the checklist in a way that best suits their educational or research context. Please note: the interactive features—such as per-section checklists and explanatory tooltips for “fact-checking” and “checking perspectives” (visible on hover)— will only work if the checklist is first downloaded and opened in Adobe (Acrobat). Dutch-language versions can be found by searching for “Checklist beoordelen GenAI content".
