The Digital Age: What about Human Values? | Radboud Reflects Lecture with Tamar Sharon

How can we make room for the human dimension in a world that is becoming increasingly digitized? Digitization seems to be the solution to everything: problems in education, healthcare, and even the justice system. How can we continue to make room for other essential values such as creativity, empathy, caring for one another, privacy, cooperation, or the right to a fair trial? Listen to philosopher Tamar Sharon, who argues that digitization has become our new framework for thinking. She points out the dangers of this: is human dignity being compromised? The Digital Age: What about Human Values? | Silent-interview with political philosopher Tamar Sharon Denkwerk 2026 | Saturday 7 March 2026 | De Lindenberg, Nijmegen Radboud Reflects and Faculty of Philosophy, Theology and Religious Studies

Cyber (In-)Security with Güneş Acar | In a Nutshell

How can a website collect your password – even before you hit the sign-up button? Does a VPN help against being tracked online? And why is tracking users actually such an issue? In the eighteenth episode of In a Nutshell, we will take a deep dive into cyber security – and all the things that make the internet a not-so-safe space when it comes to data protection. Together with this week’s guest, Güneş Acar, we will figure out how users can attempt to stay safe when it comes to their data online, and why this can be so difficult. Güneş Acar is an assistant professor for Digital Security at the Faculty of Science and is associated with the iHub (Interdisciplinary Hub for Digitization and Society) at Radboud University. He researches security and privacy threats from, amongst other things, websites and mobile apps, and is a specialist on online tracking. Would you like to learn more about how to stay safe online? Then follow Güneş’ recommendations and have a look at the YouTube video on how dark patterns trick you online, the investigative report Twelve Million Phones, One Data Set, Zero Privacy by the New York Times, or a Wired article on Gunes’ own research how websites collect your information before you have even signed up to them. Lecture Notes chapter 3: Uncertainty Analysis

This "Maker Lab" course uses Jupyter Notebook files and the Python programming language for data analysis and visualization and uncertainty analysis. Chapter 3 of the lecture notes introduces Uncertainty Analysis using Python. Note: If you do not (yet) have Jupyter Notebook, you cannot fully utilize the .ipynb file. But the attached PDF will give an idea of its content and functionality. Note also: In order to interact with and fully utilize the Jupyter Notebook documents (including their hyperlinks and pointers to data and image files), it is helpful to save the entire collection locally in a way that preserves the original directory structure. This is easiest to accomplish by downloading all files at once via the JupyterPython-materials zip file and unpacking it (extracting the files) to your preferred local directory. This zip file of all Jupyter Notebook materials is located here: https://search.edusources.nl/materialen/d144774e-9705-489a-b3cd-28e3618f7324
