Amateur Craft as Method-in-the-Making:

This research output documents a pandemic-era experiment in which academic researchers used knitting to record and reflect on their digital screen time, exploring craft as a critical research method and a tool for data sensitisation, feminist activism, and embodied knowledge making. Project Overview: A group of academics and amateur knitters from Maastricht University and partner institutions met online during 2020–2021, using knitting to document their own screen time over a week of lockdown. Their creative outputs—a collection of individually knitted rectangles—were later assembled as a tactile "knitted book" to display in arts and crafts contexts, as well as academic contexts. The project linked technofeminist thinking, craftivism, and artistic research practices, aiming to make visible both quantitative and qualitative aspects of technology use during social isolation. Main Topics and Learning Objectives: • Explore how amateur craftwork (knitting) can act as a research method to sensitise and interpret personal data. • Engage with concepts from technofeminism and critical craft studies to understand the role of tactile, embodied methodologies. • Foster social connection, experimentation, and reflection on digital dependency during the COVID-19 lockdown. • Develop awareness of how materials, technique, and individual interpretation shape both method and outcome in collaborative research. Audience: This work suits students, educators, and researchers interested in qualitative and artistic research methods, feminist theory, science and technology studies (STS), and creative digital-literacy pedagogies. It models interdisciplinary practice and encourages engagement with data, methodology, and making as interconnected experiential processes. Authors and Licensing: Authors: Denise Petzold (first and corresponding author), Laura Barendregt, Ruth Benschop, Anna Harris, Laudy van den Heuvel, Bernike Pasveer, Veerle Spronck, Sally Wyatt, affiliated with Maastricht University, TU Delft, Zuyd University of Applied Sciences, and HKU University of Arts Utrecht. The text is suitable for publication in open educational repositories and supports open, collaborative engagement with academic craftwork. The pictures of the digitised version of the book were taken by Eric Bleize. Publication strategies & Open Access: Choosing a journal to publish in

Choosing a journal to publish in Where will you publish your next journal article? With thousands of journals available it can be hard to find the right journal for your work. At the bottom of this page you can find an overview of tools that can help you create a 'shortlist' of journals to publish in. Some disciplines or research schools have developed journal lists, providing an overview of the journals most relevant to them. Aims & scope After creating a shortlist of suitable journals you need to check the aims and scope of the journals. Open Access options When choosing a journal the options to publish in Open Access can be important as well. All EUR-researchers are required to make their publications Open Access and most research funders have adopted policies that make Open Access publishing mandatory. AAbstracting and indexing information Where is the journal indexed? In other words: in which databases will researchers and students be able to find your article in their search results? Are these multidisciplinary databases, like Scopus or Web of Science, and/or discipline specific databases like EconLit, ERIC, PsycINFO or Sociological Abstracts? Are these databases you and your peers use? Tools to find journals to publish in Several tools have been developed to help you find suitable journals: these tools allow you to upload title, abstract and/or keywords of your article and – using data of articles already published - matching journals are shown. Some of these tools are publisher specific, others are publisher neutral. Journal lists Some disciplines and schools have created list of journals to publish in. These list are sometimes also used to evaluate researchers. Suggested.

The European Experience

The European Experience brings together the expertise of nearly a hundred historians from eight European universities to internationalise and diversify the study of modern European history, exploring a grand sweep of time from 1500 to 2000. Offering a valuable corrective to the Anglocentric narratives of previous English-language textbooks, scholars from all over Europe have pooled their knowledge on comparative themes such as identities, cultural encounters, power and citizenship, and economic development to reflect the complexity and heterogeneous nature of the European experience. Rather than another grand narrative, the international author teams offer a multifaceted and rich perspective on the history of the continent of the past 500 years. Each major theme is dissected through three chronological sub-chapters, revealing how major social, political and historical trends manifested themselves in different European settings during the early modern (1500–1800), modern (1800–1900) and contemporary period (1900–2000). This resource is of utmost relevance to today’s history students in the light of ongoing internationalisation strategies for higher education curricula, as it delivers one of the first multi-perspective and truly ‘European’ analyses of the continent’s past. Beyond the provision of historical content, this textbook equips students with the intellectual tools to interrogate prevailing accounts of European history, and enables them to seek out additional perspectives in a bid to further enrich the discipline.
