Handout writing - Academic writing: purpose and target audience

Before actually starting to write, you need to think about the purpose of your writing, and the audience you are writing for. This is important because having a clear idea of the purpose and the audience can help you make decisions about the content, structure and form of your writing.

The Scientific Method - an online course

There is often a disconnect between education in scientific methods and its use in practice. As a result, students find it difficult to apply the methods later on. Wageningen University has developed a modular online course that aims to bridge the gap between learning and application.

The scientific method - an online course

An online course of 6 modules in which students gain experience with philosophy of science, methodology and research within a specific domain (meteorology). The different disciplines are intertwined so that they reinforce each other. In the first 4 modules, the students go through a research cycle, answering a research question per module. In the last two modules, the students work on their own research project. In module 5 they develop a research plan and in module 6 they carry out the research and report on it. Peer interaction is an essential part of the online course. Registration/account needed (free).

Clip7c Atmospheric Dynamics -Thermal wind

In this clip I will show an application of the theory of geostrategic motion using the case of a change in the geostrategic wind with height. You will see that this change is closely linked to an existing horizontal temperature gradient. We start with two columns of air. The left column is filled with cold air. And the right column with more Mer. The clip relates to the course Introduction Atmosphere (MAQ-10306; https://ssc.wur.nl/Handbook/Course/MAQ-10306).

Clip7b Atmospheric Dynamics

In this clip I will illustrate the theory of juice trophic motion by using the example of curved isobars We will also examine the theory of circular motion and learn how to derive the gradient wind relationships. The clip relates to the course Introduction Atmosphere (MAQ-10306; https://ssc.wur.nl/Handbook/Course/MAQ-10306).
