Monasterium Digital Archive

Monasterium is a collaborative digital archive containing charters and documents from over 2000 repositories across 17 European countries. The site can be used in 14 different languages. Not limited solely to documents of the Middle Ages, Monasterium brings together over 775,000 digital documents. After registering for a free account, users are able to interact with images of the archival documents, sharing comments on the platform. In order to join the archive, repositories must agree to metadata standards to ensure cohesion across collections. Monasterium is maintained by ICARUS, the International Centre for Archival Research.

Adhesive Connections in Glass Constructions

In this video, Christiane Kothe explains the use of structural adhesive bonding in glass construction, a technology with ancient roots that was revolutionized by modern synthetic and silicone adhesives. Adhesive connections offer key advantages over mechanical fixings, including transparent aesthetics, the ability to join different materials, and even stress distribution, which reduces local weak points. However, their success depends on meticulous surface preparation and managing long curing times, which can impact production efficiency. The video covers the fundamental principles of adhesion and cohesion, the chemical curing process of structural adhesives, and the critical importance of surface pre-treatments to ensure bond strength and long-term durability. Through methods like contact angle measurement and mechanical testing, including accelerated aging, the performance and reliability of these bonds can be validated. When applied correctly, adhesive connections significantly enhance the safety, efficiency, and design possibilities of modern glass structures. The video was produced by the Open GLASSroom project. Special thanks to Christiane Kothe for contributing to the Open GLASSroom OER collection. The creation of these resources has been (partially) funded by the ERASMUS+ grant program of the European Union under grant no. 2022-1-DE01-KA220-HED-000089750. Ports and Waterways: Navigating the changing world

Before you lies the book ‘Ports and Waterways - Navigating the changing world’, written by the Ports and Waterways team, part of the Civil Engineering and Geosciences faculty at Delft University of Technology. It integrates the content of a number of separate lecture notes we used in our teaching activities and updates this information where relevant. The integration reflects our vision that ports and waterways should be viewed as parts of a coherent system that supports waterborne supply chains, and that their integral design and operation is essential.

Justice in Transportation. The cases of Uber and OV ChipKaart

This exercise will look at justice and equity concerning Information and Communication Technologies (ICT’s) in transportation through specific theories of justice and compare two technological innovations (Uber and OV ChipKaart) in the classroom. The ethical implications of these innovations will be debated in order to make conscious decisions about fair systems of mobility.

Dredging Engineering: Special Topics

In dredging, production estimating is carried out mainly with analytical physical models of the different dredging processes. Slurry transport of settling slurries and cutting processes in sand, clay and rock are already covered in two other books by the author. Other processes like hopper sedimentation and erosion, water jet fluidization, cutter head spillage, pump/pipeline dynamics and clamshell dredging are covered in this Special Topics Edition. New topics may be added in the near future.
