The Art of Reuse and Adaptation

This open textbook is a practical guide to Open Educational Resources (OER) and Open Educational Practices (OEP) in higher education. Developed collaboratively by librarians, educators, researchers, and Open Education practitioners across the European Network of Open Education Librarians (ENOEL), it brings together policy analysis, practical guidance, and reusable tools into a single, adaptable resource. The book is built around three themes: policy, support, and practice. It looks at how policy shapes Open Education, what infrastructure and support make it sustainable, and how to build trust and create inclusive resources together with students and colleagues. Throughout, a Universal Design for Learning lens invites readers to critically reflect on the accessibility and inclusivity of open resources themselves. True to the values it explores, the textbook is designed for more than reading: it invites active reuse. Readers can explore its chapters, follow its curated toolkits and case studies, adapt its frameworks to local contexts, or reuse its editable templates directly. It’s aligned with UNESCO’s international recommendations on open education, openly licensed, free to adapt, and ready to grow through the contributions of others. De Reflector – Beyond Elemental Loss | Radboud Reflects Lecture by philosopher Marjolein Oele

How can the classical elements—fire, water, air, and earth—help us grapple with loss in an era of climate change? In her latest book Beyond Elemental Loss, philosopher Marjolein Oele observes how shifting elements, such as unusual weather, polluted air and sudden wildfires, can leave us feeling disoriented. Drawing on indigenous knowledge, as well as great thinkers such as Elinor Ostrom and Michael Serres, she makes a case for trust-building as a path forward. Yet, in an age of historically low trust in politics, how can trust offer a solution? Listen to this conversation between philosopher Cees Leijenhorst and environmental philosopher Marjolein Oele about her latest book, covering how we can view loss during a climate crisis through the elements, the importance of communities, and whether she is optimistic about the future. About the speaker Marjolein Oele is professor of Philosophy of the Humanities at Radboud University. She is the author of Beyond Elemental Loss: Shifting Constellations of Water, Fire, Air and Earth and E-Co-Affectivity: Exploring Pathos at Life's Material Interfaces. Her most recent research project focuses on ‘affects’ in the Anthropocene. Did you find this interesting? Subscribe to the channel on which you listened to De Reflector. The Matter of Hospitals

This book invites readers to discover never-before-told stories of hospitals through an unusual assortment of materials, offering a unique and timely glimpse into one of society’s most feared, essential, and sensorially rich institutions. Hospitals, with their distinctive smells, acute pain, births, writhing bodies, incessant beeping, endless waiting, cardboard food and never-ending corridors, have fascinated writers for centuries. Edited by the prize-winning author of A Sensory Education and Making Sense of Medicine, this book shares a never-before-told story of hospitals through an unusual collection of objects. A great deal that matters happens in hospitals – from new life to the end of life. There is also a great deal of matter, in its material form, within hospitals. Sometimes there is too much: when we see the mountains of clinical waste with dirty syringes and used gloves. Sometimes there is too little: when we saw empty pharmacy shelves during the pandemic. More often, matter circulates in ways that are taken for granted, invisible yet critical to how hospitals function. Each essay in this book takes the matter of hospitals as a starting point to explore broader themes. Organised alphabetically, The Matter of Hospitals investigates what we can learn from the institution’s materiality about creativity, waste, patient care, community, attention and design. From ‘A’ for atmosphere to ‘Z’ for zips, each essay is a close sensory study of what seem, on the surface, to be mundane things. Beautifully illustrated with artistic photographs and hand-drawn illustrations by the editor, The Matter of Hospitals offers an inspiring and unique examination of the stuff that so many of us take for granted, in a place that we never do.

Sustainable EU Economy: an interactive Textbook for Business Students

Dear Reader, Welcome to Sustainable EU Economy. This book is more than a textbook—it is an invitation to explore how the European Union shapes business, society, and sustainability in today’s interconnected world. My hope is that it will inspire you to think critically, engage actively, and see how Europe’s vision for a climate‑neutral and inclusive future connects directly to your own journey as a student and professional. This book was created to guide you through one of the most dynamic and influential regions in the world—the European Union. With its single market of over 450 million consumers and policies that shape global standards, the EU is not only a trading bloc but also a laboratory for resilience, sustainability, and innovation. This book will help you see the EU not just as an institution, but as a living system that directly impacts business, society, and the environment. You will explore how Europe is responding to challenges such as climate change, digital transformation, and shifting geopolitics, and how these responses create opportunities for businesses and professionals like you. This textbook is not a static resource but an interactive digital reference, designed to evolve alongside the changing study of European integration and sustainability. By combining case studies, discussion prompts, and applied exercises with live seminar content and guest lectures, it adapts to new research, policy debates, and global challenges. In this way, you may explore the EU not only as a historical and political project, but also as a dynamic economic system that continually reshapes business strategy, trade, and innovation.
