Guide Mendeley

Mendeley is a program that can easily store your information sources. You can also add notes or the full text if you like. You can put your information sources into folders and share these folders with other people. You can tag each source with keywords so you can easily find your sources in Mendeley. In short, you can create your own digital 'library' with your own structure.

Corpus Synodalium

Throughout the later Middle Ages, bishops across Latin Christendom promulgated provincial canons and diocesan statutes to guide the clergy and instruct the faithful. Offering direct access to more than 1700 of these texts (many transcribed directly from manuscripts or rare early printings), Corpus Synodalium allows users to explore and compare these texts using a variety of simple text analysis tools (including fuzzy and faceted searches, collocation, and time series). In addition, users can look for spatial patterns within the text corpus by exporting search results to the first-ever digital atlas of the dioceses and ecclesiastical provinces of late medieval Latin Christendom. The project website also includes a working repertory of the extant synodal statutes and provincial canons from 1200-1500, which lists their date, location, issuing authority, principal sources/editions, and more.

Lessons Learned

Agent-based modelling (ABM) is one of the most widely applied computational modelling research techniques in archaeology, because it is well suited to the questions asked by archaeologists. However, the access to vocational training for ABM is limited. In this paper we present the Open Educational Resources (OER) that we produced in an international cooperation. For this purpose, we created online and open tutorials for ABM for archaeologists. In addition, how-to guides and support material were created, both for teachers and students. The materials adhere to international (European) standards in relation to education and the Digital Skills Passport for archaeology. The teaching materials have been well tested using a diverse group of archaeologists during various international conferences and meetings. It was shown that the knowledge and skills of the participants in relation to ABM improved. In addition, the demand for the teaching materials and the workshops was high, ensuring that the tutorials on ABM will be used in the future.

Glass Sustainability: Recycling

In this video Faidra Oikonomopoulou & Telesilla Bristogianni explain that while glass is 100% recyclable in theory, in practice, successful closed-loop recycling is largely limited to the container industry (bottles and jars). For other glass products, like architectural and automotive glass, recycling rates are very low, with most post-consumer waste being downcycled or landfilled. The main barriers are technical, such as contamination from coatings and chemical incompatibility between different glass types, and logistical, including the difficult disassembly of complex products like windows. The video contrasts the high recycling rate of glass bottles in the EU (76%) with the minimal recycling of post-consumer float glass from buildings (under 1%). Solutions proposed include investing in new recycling methods like casting, establishing better collection facilities, implementing tracking systems for building materials, and designing products for disassembly from the start. The video concludes that overcoming these barriers is key to unlocking the full potential of glass recycling. The video was produced by the Open GLASSroom project. Special thanks to Faidra Oikonomopoulou & Telesilla Bristogianni for contributing to the Open GLASSroom OER collection. The creation of these resources has been (partially) funded by the ERASMUS+ grant program of the European Union under grant no. 2022-1-DE01-KA220-HED-000089750. Workshop: Introduction to Basics of Copyright for Students

This workshop aims to introduce students to copyright basics in an engaging way by having them analyze real life cases of (re)using works, and sharing or publishing what they created. The workshop provides the students with a practical and systematic approach. In applying that to cases the intended effect is that students are not ‘afraid’ anymore of dealing with copyright and (open) licenses and also know how to work within copyright and license allowances, thus avoiding infringement and complying with norms of academic integrity. The cases are chosen in such a way to make sure that almost all aspects of copyright and reuse are addressed.

Doing the literature review: Using a reference manager

Using a reference manager for your literature review A reference manager can be a very useful tool when you are doing a literature review. It helps you to organise your references in a systematic way. Customizing User Fields in Refworks RefWorks has a large number of assigned fields; Authors, Title, Pub Year, etc. Some fields are assigned only for particular reference types, for example Accessed, Year – a required field in some output styles for web pages. Deduplicate records in RefWorks When you import references from several databases, it's likely that some titles appear more than once in your RefWorks database. Related. Suggested.

Search methods & techniques: Get the most out of Google Scholar

Get the most out of Google Scholar Google Scholar is a suite of tools for scholars. You can use it to search for scholarly publications, mainly journal articles, and access e-content in publisher’s websites, academic repositories, and libraries. Customize Google Scholar to connect to the library’s resources Customize your Google Scholar settings to link to the Erasmus University Library’s collection. Export citations to RefWorks Manually collecting the information you need to create correct references can be a lot of work. There are tools available, called reference managers, to make this easier. Advanced search The Advanced Search in Google Scholar gives you more control over your search to find more relevant results by using filters and other parameters. Impact of the publication Cited by Related articles Book Reviews Related. Suggested.
