An analysis of the current developments and scenarios for the transition to a fossil-free energy society this century

This century, greenhouse gas emissions such as carbon dioxide, methane, and nitrogen oxides must be significantly reduced. Greenhouse gases absorb and emit infrared radiation that contributes to global warming, which can lead to irreversible negative consequences for humans and the environment. Greenhouse gases are caused by the burning of fossil fuels such as crude oil, coal, and natural gas, but livestock farming and agriculture are also to blame. In addition, deforestation contributes to more greenhouse gases. Of the natural greenhouse gases, water vapor is the main cause of the greenhouse effect, accounting for 90%. The remaining 10% is caused from high to low by carbon dioxide, methane, nitrogen oxides, chlorofluorocarbons, and ozone. In addition, there are industrial greenhouse gases such as fluorinated hydrocarbons, sulphur hexafluoride, and nitrogen trifluoride that contribute to the greenhouse effect too. Greenhouse gases are a major cause of climate change, with far-reaching consequences for the welfare of humans and animals. In some regions, extreme weather events like rainfall are more common, while others are associated with more extreme heat waves and droughts. Sea level rise caused by melting ice and an increase in forest fires are undesirable effects of climate change. Countries in low-lying areas fear that sea level rise will force their populations to move to the higher-lying areas. Climate change is affecting the entire world. An estimated 30-40% o f the carbon dioxide released by the combustion of fossil fuels dissolves into the surface water, resulting in an increased concentration of hydrogen ions. This causes the seawater to become more acidic, resulting in a decreasing of carbonate ions. Carbonate ions are an important building block for forming and maintaining calcium carbonate structures of organisms such as oysters, mussels, sea urchins, shallow water corals, deep sea corals, and calcareous plankton.

Development of a Digital Escape Room

This document gives insight into the background, functions, and possible use of a developed digital escape room. The room was created as an assignment for the completion of the ICF Facilitator course, offered by the WHO. Transforming content from a PPT format into a Google website was inspired by Adrijana Krebs (EDUdig project). Design and content were inspired by a student project group, which had developed the escape game WEscape. This 50-minute game is developed to improve person-centred, interprofessional collaboration based on ICF. It consists of four quizzes, which start with background knowledge and exploring ICF codes in the ICF browser. A case of a 10-year-old girl with cerebral palsy serves as a basis for a role-play, in which shared-decision making shall be exercised. Information shall be sorted per ICF domain and additional information can be invented. Finally, a broader view of the ICF framework is established, before the learners access a code to exit the room. Find the game here: https://sites.google.com/view/escape4health - Consider time to introduce and feedback!

ICF-based Tools and Practices to promote the use of ICF

The International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF) is a linking framework for interprofessional collaboration and structuring the needs of a client. The need for practical training for professionals and the need for applications and tools to implement the ICF in clinical practice has been recognized. In total, 18 of the 20 planned development actions were completed. Four themes emerged: ICF training in the workplace (n=8), ICF videos (n=4), ICF tools (n=4), and ICF documentation (n=2). Bridging the gap between higher education and the work field was one of the ultimate objectives of the INPRO project. Much has been done, but it is clear that this work needs to continue in the future, in partnership with higher education institutions and working life. This report provides insight into how the developments were done and what the ICF-based tools and practices are.

Evaluating information & data: Avoiding bias

Avoiding bias Information may have a particular bias towards an ideological, political or commercial viewpoint. A critical analysis of a source as well as of the author’s background is needed to identify evidence of bias. Bias may be the result of a selective representation, but also of selective omission. Suggested.

Maker Lab complete set of JupyterPython-materials zip file

This a zip file of all the course's Jupyter Notebook documents, bundled together here for the convenience of anyone wanting to use them within Jupyter Notebook*. The Maker Lab course uses Jupyter Notebook documents in several ways: for Readings for Students (specifically the "lecture notes") and for Assignments (both descriptions and templates). These individual files are found in the relevant pages here on Edusources - and also shared in PDF form so that they can be viewed without using Jupyter Notebooks. However, in order to interact with and fully utilize the Jupyter Notebook documents (including their hyperlinks and pointers to data and image files), it is best to save the entire collection locally in a way that preserves the original directory structure. This is easiest to accomplish by downloading all files at once via this JupyterPython-materials zip file and unpacking it (extracting the files) to your preferred local directory. *Note: there is a text file within this zip file with instructions for installing Python and Jupyter Notebook.

Making History: Reflections of a History Student in the Archive

I invite you to learn what it takes to produce historic knowledge. My writing aims at anyone interested in history as a discipline and its inner workings. Other history students might profit from reading about my ex¬periences and encounters with historic research in particular. And some might just be interested how history ‘is made’. Finally, I hope that a few will enjoy following my personal development and appreciate the extra knowledge offered. By recording my archival research in this way, my booklet wants to contribute to accessible and public academia.

Fostering inclusive learning environments through cultural heritage

This handbook is one of the results of the Erasmus+ project REBELAH. The REBELAH project was designed to help foster more inclusive learning environments in adult education. Studies have shown that members of minoritized religious and ethnic groups experience trouble in educational settings, as learners from the majoritized groups feel uncomfortable when they are in their group. The REBELAH project aimed to create tools and activities that can help trainers and learners foster more inclusive and safe learning environments. These tools and activities have a particular focus on (European) cultural heritage. This handbook provides a number of ice-breaking, team-building, and incultural empowerment activities that trainers in adult education can use to help foster a more inclusive environment in adult learning settings. It also provides more context for the notion of European cultural heritage in a super-diverse Europe, and reports on the pilot studies testing the activities and tools in multiple national contexts.

Inclusion, religion and heritage in secular adult learning environments

This handbook is one of the results of the Erasmus+ project REBELAH. The REBELAH project was designed to help foster more inclusive learning environments in adult education. Studies have shown that members of minoritized religious and ethnic groups experience trouble in educational settings, as learners from the majoritized groups feel uncomfortable when they are in their group. The REBELAH project aimed to create tools and activities that can help trainers and learners foster more inclusive and safe learning environments. These tools and activities have a particular focus on (European) cultural heritage. This handbook provides guidelines for trainers (and trainer trainers) who want to use cultural heritage modules and activities in their teaching to help foster a more inclusive learning environment. In has theoretical sections that introduce different (teaching) activities, as well as detailed descriptions of activities that teacher can use in class/training.
