Spray Painting Glass

In this video, Emanuel Nowak and Matthias Seel detail an innovative and experimental process for Spray Printing Glass. The project began as a seemingly impossible challenge from a colleague, Erwin, to create glass structures using a modified airbrush system. The team, including a glassblower and engineers, adapted a metal repair torch to spray 100-micron thick soda-lime and borosilicate glass beads onto various substrates like stone, glass, and woven sheets. The initial results were rough and porous, with a "Swiss cheese"-like structure at the interface between the print and the base plate. Through iterative experimentation, they refined the process by adjusting parameters like the burner type, nozzle heat, and using a heating chamber. This led to more transparent, translucent prints with fewer pores and better adhesion, allowing them to create larger and more complex small-scale structures. The vision for this technique spans from artistic applications like glass graffiti to functional architectural panels with potential for improved stiffness or acoustic performance. The video was produced by the Open GLASSroom project. Special thanks to Emanuel Nowak and Matthias Seel for contributing to the Open GLASSroom OER collection. FiReGlass - Glass beams with defined fire resistance

In this recorded presentation from glasstec 2024, Maximilian Möckel, from TU Dresden, discusses fire resistent glass beams. In the construction industry, the application of load-bearing laminated safety glass (LSG), such as glass beams or glass columns, is of particular importance in terms of preventive structural fire protection. LSG with a transformation temperature of individual components of up to 550 °C conse-quently loses its load-bearing capacity. In co-operation between Hero Fire GmbH, Taupitz GmbH & Co. KG and the Institute of Building Construction of the TUD Dresden University of Technology, LSG-beams were developed for use as load-bearing elements with defined fire resistance. The newly developed FiReGlass beam compris-es a load-bearing LSG core, which is protected from the fire exposure by two protection systems. The glass surfaces and lower glass edges are protected by an all-round protection system compris-ing fire protection gel and sacrificial panes. This system is integrated into the support structure. These new developments enable the realization of comprehensive fire protection and defined fire resistance. For further details, please refer to the linked publication. Special thanks to Messe Düsseldorf GmbH for providing the footage, and to Maximilian Möckel for contributing to the Open GLASSroom OER collection. Handleiding – HAN competentieframework open leermaterialen

Open Educational Resources: Designing for Reuse workshop (2024)

The slides for the workshop "Open Educational Resources: Designing for Reuse". This 1,5 hour long workshop focuses on how to create educational resources in such a way that they can be easily openly shared, and are enticing for others to reuse as OER. As such, it focusing specifically on the Creating and Sharing competencies for OER as defined by UNESCO. It is mostly meant for educators who are already somewhat familiar with the topic of Open Education and OER.
