Energie in Beweging #3 - Energiemanagement

Energie in Beweging #2 - Warmtetransitie

Energie in Beweging #1 - De Energietransitie

Ontdek hoe planetaire gezondheid zichtbaar is in jouw omgeving.

[ENG] Pressure cooker Transdisciplinarity – A practical approach

What – This pressure cooker is a practical approach to the how of transdisciplinary education. You’ll learn how you can embed transdisciplinary education. For whom – The format can be used (and adjusted) for a class of students (all levels; any group size) as well as a team of educational developers or teachers. Why – Guided training in, for instance, transdisciplinary education improves the actual working with, or teaching of, it. How long – In-class activities take two hours. Preparation at home takes up to 40 minutes. Please go to the pressure cooker about the theoretical approach (the why & what) if you first want to know more about the theory.

The Refurbishment of Channel 4

In this video, Peter van de Rotten describes in detail the refurbishment of a 1990s high-tech glass facade at Channel 4's headquarters in London. The original design used a double-curved cable net with point-fixed suspended glass panels. Over time serious safety issues emerged, namely damaged glass and fixings displaced by up to 50mm which threatened sudden energy release and possible collapse. To safely disassemble the facade, the team introduced a third load path, supporting each glass panel from the top steel crown, and designed special clamps to secure cable fixings. The disassembly was carried out in a carefully controlled sequence to safely remove and replace the different elements and components. Key challenges included extremely tight tolerances (down to 20 micrometers), mixing old and new materials, and avoiding stress around glass holes. The team chose to preserve the original facade shape to prevent unpredictable behavior. The video was produced by the Open GLASSroom project. Special thanks to Peter van de Rotten for contributing to the Open GLASSroom OER collection. Classical Mechanics & Special Relativity

Classical mechanics is the starting point of physics. Over the centuries, via Newton’s three fundamental laws formulated around 1687, we have built a solid framework describing the material world around us. This textbook includes animations, demos and exercises for studying introductory classical mechanics. Moreover, we will consider the first steps of Einstein’s Special Theory of Relativity published 1905. This book starts from the three laws of Newton and builds up classical mechanics from scratch. Its content carefully constructs the classical mechanics from Newtons laws, providing a rigorous, fundamental framework. Emphasis is placed on working with the basic concepts of momentum, energy and angular momentum. Special attention is paid to oscillations, collisions including non-ideal ones and the Kepler problem. Rigid body dynamics is extensively discussed. The use of polar coordinates is extensively discussed. Non-inertial frames of reference are treated starting from linearly accelerating ones and moving to the rotating frames of reference. The centrifugal and Coriolis forces are introduced and explained. In the second part, the switch to special relativity is made. The problems coming out of Maxwells equations for electro-magnetic waves are used as the step towards modern mechanics. The Lorentz Transformation, where events in 4-dimensional space, time dilation and length contraction are discussed. Furthermore, the book introduces the world of four-vectors, deriving the four-velocity and four-momentum. Velocity transformation, Doppler shift and relativistic collision form the final parts of the book.

Grasduinen in waterbouw

Self-study module Introduction to Plant Biology - Photosynthesis light-dependent reaction

This self-study module is part of the series ‘Introduction to Plant Biology’ and introduces the light-dependent reactions of photosynthesis and their role in converting light energy into chemical energy. It is designed for students studying basic plant biology and for teachers seeking clear explanations and illustrative figures for educational use. The module explains the two photosynthetic reactions: light-dependent and light-independent, with a focus on the processes occurring in the chloroplast during the light-dependent phase. Students explore the formation of the energy carriers ATP and NADPH, the splitting of water into oxygen, and the role of fluorescence as an indicator of disturbances in the photosynthetic process and therefore plant health.
