Measure Sustainability: LCA

In this video, Angelica Rota explains the Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) methodology and its specific application to glass products. The LCA is a standardized process that evaluates a product's environmental impact from raw material extraction ("cradle") to final disposal ("grave"). The assessment follows four phases: defining the goal and scope, conducting a life cycle inventory, assessing the environmental impacts, and interpreting the results. For construction products like glass, the life cycle is divided into modules covering production, use, end-of-life, and potential benefits from recycling. The findings of an LCA are often published in an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD), a verified document that communicates transparent environmental data. For flat glass, the manufacturing stage is the most environmentally intensive, contributing the vast majority to its global warming potential due to the high energy required to melt raw materials. Increasing the use of recycled glass cullet is a key strategy for reducing this impact, as it significantly lowers the energy consumption and associated CO2 emissions of the melting process. Understanding LCA is crucial for identifying environmental hotspots and driving more sustainable practices in glass production and use. The video was produced by the Open GLASSroom project. Special thanks to Angelica Rota for contributing to the Open GLASSroom OER collection. Docenthandleiding: Integrale preventiezorg

In this lecture, Janneke Verker-Evers, Sustainability Leader at Scheldebouw (Permasteelisa Group), discusses the environmental impact of customised façades and the process of creating Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs). Learners will gain insight into the challenges of compiling a lifecycle analysis for unitised façades, considering factors like material types, manufacturing processes, transportation, and installation. The lecture also covers how Permasteelisa Group uses early-stage EPDs to optimize façade designs by reducing materials, comparing options, and selecting low-carbon suppliers. The focus is on improving embodied carbon in future designs by making informed decisions from the outset of a project. Additionally, the EPD for the Curtain Wall FT01A of the "n2" building in London is available as supplementary material at the link shared below. The video was produced by the Open GLASSroom project, in collaboration with Permasteelisa Group and the NewMedia Centre at TU Delft. The creation of these resources has been (partially) funded by the ERASMUS+ grant program of the European Union under grant no. 2022-1-DE01-KA220-HED-000089750. ICF education continuum: from basic knowledge to practical ICF implementation material.

It is recognized by the WHO that the use of the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF) requires knowledge of the ICF framework, its philosophy and principles, and practical tools. This report provides an overview of the iterative development processes of the "INPRO ICF Basic Course" materials and the "ICF in person-centered rehabilitation" advanced learning materials to support the interprofessional implementation of ICF. The added value of the INPRO ICF Basic course is the additional material developed to support the WHO ICF eLearning Tool, e.g., introduction and motivational lecture, slides and videos, and reflection seminar, where the participants discuss the most important aspects of ICF in small groups and the discussions is shared together in a big group. The developed ICF education continuum offers a learner-friendly, understandable basic knowledge of the ICF framework and additional ICF material for person-centered, interprofessional implementation. Even though the material follows the rehabilitation model, it can be used by any professional who uses the ICF.

ICF-based Tools and Practices to promote the use of ICF

The International Classification of Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF) is a linking framework for interprofessional collaboration and structuring the needs of a client. The need for practical training for professionals and the need for applications and tools to implement the ICF in clinical practice has been recognized. In total, 18 of the 20 planned development actions were completed. Four themes emerged: ICF training in the workplace (n=8), ICF videos (n=4), ICF tools (n=4), and ICF documentation (n=2). Bridging the gap between higher education and the work field was one of the ultimate objectives of the INPRO project. Much has been done, but it is clear that this work needs to continue in the future, in partnership with higher education institutions and working life. This report provides insight into how the developments were done and what the ICF-based tools and practices are.

Training for all the disciplines to explain how ICF is integrated in our EPD

The Electronic Patient Device (EPD) has much more potential than the various professional groups at Revalidatie Friesland (RF) knew. To create a common understanding and increase the use of ICF in EPD, a training module was created in RF's online learning environment for use by different professions. It included material and a video in Dutch on the possibilities of EPD suitable for professionals working in a multidisciplinary environment. An English translation of the text illustrates the contents.

ICF Table in Electronic Patient Device

This document is created to show how we use the ICF framework to collect information and how it is shown in our Electronic Patient Device (EPD). An overview of all the information of all the different disciplines is automatically made in a table. This document is created to give you inspiration if you want something like this in your own EPD.
