ShareXR : Challenge-Based Learning with XR (BMS Lab, University of Twente)

ShareXR introduces a challenge-based learning (CBL) approach for integrating research, design, and development in engineering education through extended reality (XR). Developed at the University of Twente’s BMS Lab, the model addresses the increasing need for multidisciplinary collaboration by teaching students to speak a shared language across research, design, and technical development. Even for those without an engineering, scientific or STEM background. This course offers a hands-on, multidisciplinary learning experience where students take real research ideas and transform them into innovation projects within a complete and validated open learning XR ecosystem. With reusable multimedia course content, the course enables students to understand interdisciplinary collaboration, while each module focuses on one of the four pillars: Research, Design, Development, and Project Management — guided by principles of balance, iteration, and collaboration. By working with different tools like one-page project canvases, students will learn how to translate research ideas into structured user stories, requirements, and project management tasks, while exploring how XR tools can act as a human-centered medium for prototyping, testing, and validating ideas without requiring coding skills.

Aandacht daarvoor in stap 4.

Organisational Guide Interdisciplinary Education

This guide is aimed at teachers that are looking to (re-)develop interdisciplinary or interdepartmental/interfaculty education. In addition it is useful for those teachers that intend to develop multi- or transdisciplinary educational initiatives that will have to work across departmental or faculty boundaries. This guide comprises the entire organizational design-, execution-, and evaluation process for educational endeavours. In addition, significant attention is given to the development of the content of the education, which is a process that may take place simultaneously with the organizational development, or take place separately. Content matters can be found in step 4. We recommend reading this guide in its entirety before starting with step 1. Although the steps are placed in a recommended order, in practice steps might overlap (in time) with others. Also, it will be beneficial per se to have an overview of ‘what’s to come’ before embarking on an educational (re-)development journey. The process of creating this guide is ongoing. We cannot anticipate every scenario, nor can overlook specific details. Therefore, if you run into any questions, or discover omissions that need to be remedied or added, discuss it with your colleagues and please be so kind as to alert the developers of this guide Caspar Schoevaars (c.m.schoevaars@uu.nl) or Margreet van der Ham (m.h.vanderham@uu.nl). Corrections, suggestions, gratitude and additional best practices are always welcomed!

Community based learning in health literacy

Community-Based Learning (CBL) is an educational approach that emphasizes the integration of meaningful community service with academic instruction, promoting civic engagement, and social responsibility. Because of the methodology of teaching and learning that provides context for building academic and work-readiness skills is community-based learning, also called service learning. Despite the diversity of definitions and theories related to CBL, some common criteria have been identified in the literature (Flecky, 2011): Service/community based projects are grounded in real and relevant community needs and challenges. Projects involve students in a constructive research process that addresses community issues. Students lead and carry out projects with guidance and support from educators and community partners. Projects take place over an extended period, typically weeks or months, allowing for meaningful engagement with community stakeholders. CBL promotes students' understanding of community issues, collaboration in working teams, responsibility in project design, implementation, and final product delivery, and reflection on project process and outcomes.

Education of the Future

Profile Boundary Spanner

This document provides a profile description of the boundary spanner—an essential stakeholder with regard to the implementation process of Challenged-based-Learning. An analysis was carried out based on an interview with the current TU/e boundary spanner, Elke den Ouden, in order to define the role of the boundary spanner. The findings of this analysis have been elaborated in this document and supplemented with the competencies which emerged in the research in cross-border workers, which was part of the project “Regionale Verankering” (Regional Anchoring) of “Nationaal Regieorgaan Onderwijsonderzoek” (National Education Research Agency). The boundary spanner has a role that spreads across and outside the organization of their work. Independent from appointment or location, the boundary spanner works at an interdisciplinary level on formulating, co-executing, and monitoring inter/multidisciplinary research projects, in which fulfilling a connecting role is a significant factor. The functions and roles of the boundary spanner and their tasks, permissions, and responsibilities are explained. Furthermore, it also elaborates their skill set, knowledge, ability and personal characteristics.

innovation Space Bachelor end project (ISBEP)

During this course students work in interdisciplinary teams of 3-6 in the realization of an open-ended, challenge-based project. Projects are delivered by TU/e start-ups, researchers, and industry through regular meetings with challenge owners, process coaches and academic supervisors. This course takes place in two quartiles either in Q1 and Q2, or Q3 and Q4. Innovation Space bachelor end project (ISBEP) has two different types of Intended Learning Outcomes (ILOs). There are ILOs which ensure that the content related learning goals as defined by the faculty are met and there are ILOs which relate to CBL competences such as reflection and self-directed learning. Students take ownership of the project and work in a highly independent way.
