OER at NHL Stenden

Sometimes there is a need for additional or more varied teaching materials, while the available resources are limited. You may also collaborate with colleagues from other institutions on the development of educational materials, or want to make your course materials accessible to a broader audience than just your own students. Open Educational Resources (OER) offer excellent opportunities to address these needs.

Using OER enables lecturers to reuse, adapt, and enrich existing materials with their own insights and context. This allows educational materials to better meet students’ needs and can contribute to greater engagement and deeper learning.

Openly licensed educational materials can serve as a valuable addition to existing teaching materials or even as primary learning resources. Students may sometimes need additional explanations or materials in a different format. In addition, lecturers regularly need to develop new content to clarify specific concepts. By using existing open educational resources, you can save time, gain inspiration, and efficiently build a high-quality collection of educational resources, while adapting materials to your own educational context where necessary.

Sharing educational materials

Open educational resources can make educational content available where it was previously lacking and can replace costly commercial educational resources, such as textbooks. The potential cost savings for students are often an important reason for using OER.

The NHL Stenden Library supports lecturers and students in finding, using, adapting, developing, and sharing open educational resources within courses, degree programmes, and projects.

Our support includes:

  • Advice on copyright, the reuse of materials, and open licences.

  • Support in using licensed and open resources within digital learning environments.

  • Personalised advice for lecturers, courses, and research projects that want to use or develop open educational resources.

  • Setting up a subject community (internal or external) within Edusources.
