Groningen - 3D model Anatomy of the airways with opaque lungs - numbered English labels

This model shows some of the anatomy of the airways. It was based on CT data. CT data was transformed into 3D objects, which were imported into Zbrush 2018 and further modified, based on the CT data, specimen in the dissection room and references in anatomy books. A version of this model with transparent lungs is at https://anatomytool.org/content/anatomy-airways-transparent-lungs

Lecture: Introduction General Explainable AI

Understand, analyze and elaborate upon the importance of XAI in the modern world. Differentiate between transparent and opaque machine learning models. Categorize and discuss approaches to explainability XAI based on model scope, agnosticity, data types and explanation techniques. Discern, investigate and discuss the trade-off between accuracy and interpretability. Summarize and understand the working principles and mathematical modeling of XAI techniques like LIME, SHAP, DiCE, LRP, counterfactual and contrastive explanations. Expand on possible applications of XAI techniques like LIME, SHAP, DiCE, LRP to generate explanations for black-box models for tabular, textual, and image datasets.

Intro to Open Science

Created for the GSLS Master introduction Days 2025, Utrecht University. This lecture will introduce you to the principles and practices of Open Science, a global movement aimed at making scientific research more accessible, transparent, and collaborative. You will learn why open science matters for accelerating discoveries, improving research quality, and enhancing reproducibility. Key topics include open access publishing, open and FAIR data, preprints, open peer review, and sharing research tools and methods. The session will also cover practical tips on how you can integrate open science practices into your own research from the start of your graduate journey. By embracing open science, you contribute to a more inclusive and impactful scientific community.

Luxottica Headquarter

In this video Nicola Greco explains the design and technical challenges of creating a fully transparent "crystal" building for the Luxottica headquarters in Milan's historical Palazzo Litta garden. The central architectural concept was achieved using a double-skin facade, which balances maximum transparency with high energy performance. Key challenges included selecting high-quality, low-iron glass with specialized coatings to minimize visual distortion and minimizing the visual impact of framing to maintain transparency. The passively ventilated double-skin facade provides a thermal buffer in winter and uses natural ventilation to remove heat in summer, with its performance validated through detailed steady-state and CFD simulations. The design also integrated innovative maintenance solutions, such as a rope access system within the cavity, to preserve the building's clean aesthetic. Special thanks to Nicola Greco for contributing to the Open GLASSroom OER collection. The creation of these resources has been (partially) funded by the ERASMUS+ grant program of the European Union under grant no. 2022-1-DE01-KA220-HED-000089750. Groningen - 3D model Cardiac Conduction System and Coronaries

Cardiac Conduction System and Coronaries. This 3D model shows the cardiac conduction system and the coronaries, in the canonical configuration of the coronaries. The coronaries have been given colours. Corresponding faint transparent colour shadings indicate the supplied cardiac areas by each coronary. It can be observed that the dorsally lying AV node is supplied by a branch from the right coronary, whilst the bundle branches that lie centrally in the septum are in the left coronary's supply area. fThe conduction system of the heart consists of cardiac muscle cells and conducting fibers (not nervous tissue) that are specialized for initiating impulses and conducting them rapidly through the heart. They initiate the normal cardiac cycle and coordinate the contractions of cardiac chambers. The conducting system provides the heart its automatic rhythmic beat. For the heart to pump efficiently and the systemic and pumonary circulations to operate in synchrony, the events in the cardiac cycle must be coordinated.

Research Data Management: Personal data and anonymization

Personal data Many researchers process (collect/study/store/share) personal data when conducting their research. Anonymisation and pseudonymisation Applying anonymizing and pseudonymizing techniques is a measure you must take to protect the privacy of research respondents. Definitions Informing participants Another very important measure is to be transparent with your research participants about which personal data you plan to process (collect/study/store/share) for which reason and at what point you will anonymize the data. Related. Suggested.
