Measuring academic impact: Tracking your research impact: sources & metrics

Tracking your research impact Research impact can be measured in many ways. Citation databases and alternative metric tools can be used to assess the output and impact of an individual’s paper or body of work. Three main bibliometric sources Various tools are available to identify a range of bibliometrics. Alternative sources and metrics Certain disciplines, journals, and document types may not be well represented in the more traditional sources for citation analysis, such as Web of Science and Scopus. Limitations There has been much debate about the use of bibliometrics in academia. Support The Research Evaluation and Assessment Service (REAS) team of the University Library - member of the Research Intelligence Community EUR - is available to consult with faculty and staff about measuring research impact. Students' Research for Society

This project expands the ‘existing circle’ of the role, societal relevance and impact of the work of the University. Why wait until students graduate and contribute to society in their professional activities? Let us not wase good students’ research! For instance, if your student has written a good paper on how to combat climate change in the court room, ensure that it reaches relevant societal actors such as NGOs, law firms or the government! We created a comprehensive overview of possible channels of how students’ research results can have societal impact (research, teaching, societal outreach). On this website, we offer a number of ideas that have been initiated by teachers at Utrecht University as part of ongoing courses or extra curriculum.

Harvesting: The Results and Impact of Research based on Historical Longitudinal Databases

This edited volume discusses the impact of several major databases containing historical longitudinal population data. The creation and development of these databases have greatly expanded research possibilities in history, demography, sociology, and other disciplines. The present collection includes seven contributions, on eight databases, that had a wide impact on research in various disciplines. Each database had its own unique genesis and readers are informed about how these databases have changed the course of research in historical demography and related disciplines, how settled findings were challenged or confirmed, and how innovative investigations were launched and implemented. The volume serves as an essential resource for scholars in the field of historical life course studies, offering insights into the transformative power of these databases and their potential for future advancements. Research Data Management: Research data management

Research data management Research data management (RDM) is an important topic with increasing relevance for academics. Due to recent examples of researchers committing fraud by falsifying or manipulating research data, this topic has attracted a lot of attention. These examples of fraud resulted in a Taskforce Scientific Integrity at the EUR, which recommended the introduction of research data management for researchers. For students, it has led to stricter supervision and attention to plagiarism. Benefits Basic elements of data management In each stage of the research life cycle different requirements are identified. Related. Suggested.
