Human and Planetary Health: The urgency to integrate into One Health

To order a paper copy of this book, please follow this link: https://www.boekenbestellen.nl/shop/external?P=62092&EX=25280 In his professional journey, travelling through an upcoming field of surgery with apparently unlimited possibilities, Kees van Laarhoven witnessed major milestones and breakthroughs. Already as a medical student, he was amazed by surgical courage. During residency, he experienced hard work, diligence and perseverance of surgical professionals. Today as a surgeon with over 25 years of clinical experience he now looks at pieces of art in surgery with professionals compassionately bringing hope to patients. But he also sees inconvenient truths in our healthcare system, with patients evolving from one predictable and preventable disease to the next and with professionals following disease trends rather than applying their knowledge to redirect disease into health. The modern disease-oriented care system becomes undesirable and unsustainable. And there are more inconvenient truths that have progressed rather than diminished in time. Healthcare is not easily accessible to the major half of the global population and for those who have access, with a growing global population, healthcare may become unaffordable in the future. Moreover, from an environmental perspective, both human and planetary health are compromised and ask for a ‘One Health’ approach. Being fascinated by the questions of how and why did this all happen, Kees van Laarhoven took up a scientific survey to comprehend and learn how things still can be changed. He found that clear solutions are there! Please join him on his journey.

Sensory Nutrition

With this textbook, we will introduce you to the world of sensory science from a nutritional perspective. It will give you a basic understanding of sensory science in the context of Nutrition and Health. Basic knowledge of sensory science is needed for dieticians and nutritionists to better understand how sensory processes can affect food intake behavior, nutritional status, and health. This textbook is developed primarily for the course Basic Sensory Science (HNH23908) as part of the compulsory curriculum of the academic and research-oriented Bachelor of Nutrition and Health from Wageningen University. But it can also be used by students at other universities/education and/or professionals.

ICF training to all rehabilitation professionals

This ICF introduction manual was developed because Coronaria has a need for ICF training material that works for all different rehabilitation professionals. The ICF training will be built on an electronic academic platform. This material gives an idea of how to build a practical way to adopt the ICF language as a part of everyday life. It gives an idea of a narrative approach in which customer stories are intertwined with different components. It also gives ideas on how to include practical and short assignments under different areas to help rehabilitation professionals to deepen their biopsychosocial thinking. Coronaria has an idea to build ICF training into different stages as an ongoing process. The first stage includes an introduction to what ICF is and what kind of ICF-based tools can be used in the assessment stage of rehabilitation. Hopefully, Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) will also get an idea of what kind of ICF training material is being developed in working life.

PFAS – Persistent Micropollutants in the Water Cycle

This report presents the final course material that was developed for the online learning module on persistent micropollutants – PFAS. The document can be used as a stand-alone manual to fully individually follow the entire course, from week to week. It includes the links to the video materials that were developed for the course within the project, fully integrated within the reading material. The course forms a bridge between scientists and professionals working in the water cycle. So far, the information on PFAS has been available in a scattered manner, making it difficult for non-experts to get a complete introductory overview. This course was designed to compile information on PFAS through the water cycle, from production to use and final treatment. The course is built up in an intuitive way: it starts with a general introduction on the origin, chemistry and nomenclature of PFAS; national standards and reported concentrations in the urban water cycle are presented; analytics are explained; the course concludes with technologies for separation and final destruction of PFAS. Each chapter (or week) contains written textbook material, videos and additional reading material. Development of the course has been a co-production between PROMISCES and TU Delft, as TU Delft has an extensive educational support system including a professional recording studio and an expert learning assessment system for engineering education. All materials including videos are freely available for the general public. If the learner wants the full experience of having virtual classmates, get access to all exercises and receive a certificate and credit points after successful completion of the course, one can register at online-learning.tudelft.nl. The course was developed by two environmental engineers with a professional educational background (Mariska Ronteltap and Kim Lompe). The educational videos include knowledge clips (recorded lectures in a studio), videos in laboratories, interviews with PROMISCES project partners and videos on location. To be able to follow the course a basic understanding of chemistry is required; other than that, the course is fully understandable for non-experts. Collaboration between TU Delft, Delfland Water Authority, and the EU Project PROMISCES.

Family Group Conference

In 1989, the FGC was implemented by the “Children, Young Persons, and Their Families Act” as a law in New Zealand. It allows every man and woman to make a FGC before institutions of social work make decisions. It empowers citizens to solve great problems with safe and legal plan and to minimise concerns of professionals and help them to cooperate.
