Identification of your own and others’ expertise

This learning activity is meant to identify available and lacking expertise, skills and attitudes in a project team. Preferably, the activity is carried out when a team just started to collaborate and has a bit of an impression of what the project and or project assignment is about. Students put as many as possible knowledge aspects, skills and attitudes they master on separate post-its. They collect and categorise their findings and discuss overlap and gaps in their project teams’ expertise/portfolio. The assignment ends with the development of an action plan for dealing with any of the identified teams’ limitations/risks.

The Rest Is History | 500. The Roman Conquest of Britain: The Empire Strikes Back (Part 2)

Viewed as an idiot by those around him, Claudius felt the need to prove himself. In the century since Caesar had invaded Britain, the mythology surrounding the island had taken hold in Roman imaginations. Stories of sea monsters, terrifying Druids, and human sacrifice by barbarians, instilled fear into the imperial legions. But Claudius was determined, and launched a two-pronged attack on the southeastern coast to immortalise his name as a victor. Accompanied by German mercenaries, Roman soldiers forced their way across the Medway in Kent and headed up the Thames to London. British elites had two options: resist or collaborate… Join Tom and Dominic as they piece together, coin by Roman coin, how Claudius conquered Britain in 43 AD. Prof. Mary Beckman | Radboud Honorary Doctorate

To order a paper copy of this book, please follow this link: https://www.boekenbestellen.nl/shop/external?P=65398&EX=25280 On October 17, 2023, during the 100th Dies Natalis of Radboud University, Mary Beckman received an honorary doctorate from Radboud University. This doctorate was awarded in recognition of her innumerable contributions to the field of linguistics. This edition includes, among other things, honorary promotor Mirjam Ernestus’ laudatio, Mary Beckman’s acceptance speech, and a detailed recollection of Beckman’s professional history. Mary Beckman made an impact early in her career by launching the Conference on Laboratory Phonology together with John Kingston, which was instrumental in the process of unifying research into the formal system of speech and research into the physical properties of speech. She then went on to co-create the ToBI system for prosody transcription, which allows researchers from many different fields to work and collaborate on speech research. Her academic contributions have fundamentally altered the course of speech research by synthesizing numerous different areas of research that once seemed incompatible. Honorary promotor Mirjam Ernestus, professor of psycholinguistics: “It is a great honor that someone with these qualities and achievements and who has materialized all the principles that we find important at Radboud University has agreed to become an honorary doctor at our university.”

Open Education webinar (2021 - slides)

This set of slides is used for the interactive workshop "Redesign, enrich and transform your course with open educational resources" developed and delivered at the University of Groningen (UG). Promo text: Intended audience: University teachers, PhD students with teaching responsibilities, education specialists Duration: 2 hours + 30-minute Q&A session Format: Interactive webinar Platform: Blackboard Collaborate The subject of open educational resources (OER) is becoming more prominent in higher education, especially in times of transition to Open Science and a need to switch to blended forms of teaching and learning. As an instrumental tool in reusing existing and creating innovative learner-centered resources, OER are an interesting area to explore for UG teachers. Would you like to try new and interesting things in your teaching? Do you need some inspiration, practical tools and support with redesigning your courses, making them more open and up-to-date? Information specialists from the University of Groningen Library and didactic experts from Education Support & Innovation will host a webinar focused on helping you redesign and enrich your course (in whole or in part) with open materials. During this interactive webinar, we will work alongside you and provide: Didactic advice Expertise in the area of open education and copyright Tips for finding high-quality open educational resources Help with exploring all the cool things that can be done with reusable and open materials Course redesign tools Platform for discussions Inspiration Your participation won’t just benefit your own course and development – you will also help us better understand your needs, so we can work on developing new services and infrastructure to make your teaching life easier. Learning Outcomes After completing this workshop, you will be able to: Understand how to use OER, basics of the copyright and open licenses Search strategically for and evaluate OER most relevant to your subject area Design appropriate teaching and learning activities using OER
