Open Access Publishing (Leiden University & LUMC)

Leiden University and the LUMC are committed Open Science and the National Open Science Plan. Both institutions consider Open Access (OA) publishing a priority and expect you to publish your scholarly articles as openly as possible. We aim to encourage OA publishing by making it simple and feasible in every discipline. Making research publications OA allows society as a whole to benefit from Leiden University and LUMC research output and increases the visibility of your publications and the research you are performing. You may be thinking of writing up your research findings into an article, or perhaps you already have a manuscript ready to submit to a journal. In either case, you want to make sure that you make the right choices for your publication. In this module we explain what OA means, what your OA options are, and where you can find the information you need to make the best choice for your publication.

Publication strategies & Open Access: Open Access publishing

Open Access publishing. How does Open Access affect YOU as researcher. For you as researcher there are two sides to the Open Access coin. Why would you publish in Open Access For a variety of reasons. The most obvious one of all we have just mentioned: you write to be read; and the more people who can read what you wrote, the better. This holds for you as an individual researcher, but it also holds for the Erasmus university as a collective body of academic researchers. Related. Suggested.

First of the 4 A's: Access

In this lecture clip, we introduce the first of the 4 A’s: Access. Within this section, some of the concepts introduced in the video clip below about accessibility will be defined. In this course we use the following definition of energy access: Energy Access is defined by the International Energy Agency as: “a household having reliable and affordable access to both clean cooking facilities and to electricity, which is enough to supply a basic bundle of energy services initially, and then an increasing level of electricity overtime to reach the regional average“. Source: IEA (2017) World Energy Outlook. All rights reserved. This means that the state of Energy Access within a region is dynamic because it alters when the regional average changes.

Publication strategies & Open Access: Choosing a journal to publish in

Choosing a journal to publish in Where will you publish your next journal article? With thousands of journals available it can be hard to find the right journal for your work. At the bottom of this page you can find an overview of tools that can help you create a 'shortlist' of journals to publish in. Some disciplines or research schools have developed journal lists, providing an overview of the journals most relevant to them. Aims & scope After creating a shortlist of suitable journals you need to check the aims and scope of the journals. Open Access options When choosing a journal the options to publish in Open Access can be important as well. All EUR-researchers are required to make their publications Open Access and most research funders have adopted policies that make Open Access publishing mandatory. AAbstracting and indexing information Where is the journal indexed? In other words: in which databases will researchers and students be able to find your article in their search results? Are these multidisciplinary databases, like Scopus or Web of Science, and/or discipline specific databases like EconLit, ERIC, PsycINFO or Sociological Abstracts? Are these databases you and your peers use? Tools to find journals to publish in Several tools have been developed to help you find suitable journals: these tools allow you to upload title, abstract and/or keywords of your article and – using data of articles already published - matching journals are shown. Some of these tools are publisher specific, others are publisher neutral. Journal lists Some disciplines and schools have created list of journals to publish in. These list are sometimes also used to evaluate researchers. Suggested.

The Open Access Companion to the Canterbury Tales

The Open Access Companion to the Canterbury Tales is a free resource for the study of Chaucer’s Canterbury Tales written and curated by professional scholars of medieval literature. The project is imagined as a resource for undergraduate and graduate students encountering the Tales early in their academic careers. Teachers of Middle English literature may find the essays particularly useful and approachable for classroom use. Articles comprise essays and reference chapters. Essays cover a topic of import to Chaucer’s work, for example “Sisterhood and Brotherhood in the Knight’s Tale,” whereas reference chapters treat foundational cultural topics, like manuscripts and everyday life. All of the texts on the Companion’s site are freely available and peer reviewed by scholars of Middle English literature.
