Co-creation of Sustainable Cities

This set contains a series of 6 short (<15 min web lectures on ' Co-creation of Sustainable Cities' (see https://online-learning.tudelft.nl/courses/citizens-co-creating-sustainable-cities/) Around the world, major challenges of our time such as population growth and climate change are being addressed in cities. Here, citizens play an important role together with governments, companies, NGOs and researchers in creating social, technological and political innovations for achieving sustainability and resilience. Citizens can be co-creators of sustainable cities when they can engage in city politics or in the design of the urban environment and its technologies and infrastructure. In addition, citizens influence and are influenced by the technologies and systems that they use every day. Sustainability is thus a result of the interplay between technology, policy and people’s daily lives. Understanding this interplay is essential for creating sustainable cities. This set provides an overview of the dynamics of co-creation for sustainable cities worldwide. In different contexts, different forms of co-creation are preferred in specific urban systems. These materials will provide you with an understanding needed to investigate how water, waste, energy, air, food, mobility, and green spaces have a vast effect on city life. Additionally, the videos will teach you about the dynamics of co-creation and the key principles of citizens interacting with service providing companies, technology and infrastructure developers, policy makers and researchers. You will gain an understanding of major types of co-creation and their interdependence with their socio-technical and political contexts. You will become equipped to indicate how you can use co-creation to develop innovative technologies, policy arrangements or social practices for a sustainable city in your own community. You will demonstrate this by developing an action plan, research proposal or project idea. Basic knowledge of sustainability in urban settings, urban environmental technology and urban management is assumed. These materials relate to the collection "Governance and Institutional Arrangements of Complex STE Systems."

Co-creation Workshop: A manual for facilitators

This document is a teacher/facilitator manual for a workshop on co-creation (duration 1.5h). The manual has been designed for a setting in which students support each other’s research proposal design. This set-up (content and schedule) and suggested tools for co-creation can also be used in various other co-creative settings. The applied methods for co-creation touch upon various learning mechanisms of boundary crossing: Identification to learn to know each other including other people’s backgrounds and interest; Reflection where it comes to walk in another’s shoes and support other participants’ learning; and Transformation because of the intention to co-create ‘1+1=3’ proposals, in the sense that students aim to co-create really innovative proposals, across the boundaries of what an individual student might come up with.

Organizing for Sustainability - A Guide to Developing New Business Models

This upper-level Open Access textbook aims to educate students and professionals on how to develop business models that have a positive impact on people, society, and the social and ecological environment. It explores a different view of how to organize value creation, from a focus on an almost exclusively monetary value creation to one that creates positive impact through multiple values. The book offers students and entrepreneurs a structured approach based through the Business Model Template (BMT). It consists of three stages and ten building blocks to facilitate the development of a business model. Users, be they students or practitioners, need to choose from one of the three offered business model archetypes, namely the platform, community, or circular business models. Each archetype offers a dedicated logic for vale creation. The book can be used to develop a business model from scratch (turning an idea into a working prototype) or to transform an existing business model into one of the three archetypes. Throughout the book extra sources, links to relevant online video clips, assignments and literature are offered to facilitate the development process. This book will be of interest to students studying the development of business models, sustainable management, innovation, and value creation. It will also be of interest executives, and professionals such as consultants or social entrepreneurs seeking further education. Is supported by a self-paced MOOC, also Open Access, holding seven chapters and over 50 teaching units ready to use: https://bit.ly/3oFZ3jj

WindowMappr©

The WindowMappr© was developed to make spatial challenges connected to landscape and land use tangible, visible and easier to discuss in a low‑threshold way that stimulates interaction, reflection and co‑creation, both in educational settings and in practice, where digital participatory mapping tools are often too technical or distant for quick, collaborative use. Its simple and consistent setup makes it broadly applicable across contexts, supporting spatial thinking in education and facilitating the exchange of knowledge, experiences and perspectives in participatory processes without requiring technical expertise. This document provides a practical guide for constructing the WindowMappr© and outlines its basic principles of use.
